Article Abstract

We report on the chemical characteristics of the red alga , collected off the coast of Yoshio, Katsuura, Boso Peninsula, Japan. We isolated two new brominated C-acetogenins in this species, which we name katsuurenyne A () and katsuurenyne B (), along with two already known halogenated terpenes [2,10-dibromo-3-chloro-α-chamigrene () and aplysiadiol ()]. We extensively analysed spectral data (from IR, ESI-MS, 1D-NMR and 2D-NMR) to confirm the structure of these compounds.

Perovskite-silicon tandem solar cells have attracted considerable attention owing to their high power conversion efficiency (PCE), which exceeds the limits of single-junction devices. This study focused on lead-free tin-based perovskites with iodine-bromine mixed anions. Bromide perovskites have a wide bandgap; therefore, they are promising light absorbers for perovskite-silicon tandem solar cells.

A rapidly synthesized magnetic microporous organic network for ultrasensitive detection of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs in fish.

J Chromatogr A

September 2025

Key Laboratory of Advanced Mass Spectrometry and Molecular Analysis of Zhejiang Province, School of Material Science and Chemical Engineering, Ningbo University, Ningbo 315211, Zhejiang, China. Electronic address:

Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) residues pose a potential threat to aquatic ecosystems and food safety. In this work, novel imine bond/pyridine nitrogen-rich magnetic microporous organic networks (MMONs-Br and MMONs-I) were synthesized via a facile one-pot strategy using brominated and iodinated precursors for the detection of NSAIDs in fish. Brunauer-Emmett-Teller analysis revealed a striking 11-fold difference in specific surface areas between the two materials (MMONs-Br: 293.

Bismuth nanospheres enabling sacrificial-agent-free bromate photoreduction and total bromine mitigation for safer water treatment.

J Hazard Mater

September 2025

Power China Huadong Engineering Corporation Limited, Hangzhou, Zhejiang 310014, PR China.

Zero-valent bismuth (Bi) nanospheres with a hollow structure were synthesized via a polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP)-assisted solvothermal method and applied as efficient photocatalysts for the sacrificial-agent-free photoreduction of bromate (BrO) under ultraviolet (UV) irradiation. The optimized Bi-0.6 catalyst exhibited a narrowed band gap and enhanced charge separation efficiency, achieving 99.

Discovery and Characterization of a Single-Component Halogenase for Phenazine Halogenation.

Org Lett

September 2025

Key Laboratory of Marine Drugs, Ministry of Education of China, School of Medicine and Pharmacy, Ocean University of China, Qingdao, 266003, China.

Halogenated phenazines hold promise as antimicrobial and antibiofilm agents, yet are mainly accessed via chemical synthesis. Herein, we report PezW, a novel single-component flavin-dependent halogenase (FDH) that halogenates phenazine scaffolds, notably enabling enzymatic synthesis of bioactive 2-bromo-1-hydroxyphenazine () and 2,4-bromo-1-hydroxyphenazine (). Structural modeling and mutagenesis revealed key residues critical for substrate binding and catalysis.

Risk Assessment from Potential Exposure to Tetrabromobisphenol A (TBBPA) from Its Use in Electronics.

Food Chem Toxicol

September 2025

Science Strategies, LLC, PMB 1111, 2795 E. Cottonwood Parkway, Suite 300, Salt Lake City, UT 84121.

Tetrabromobisphenol A (TBBPA) is the most extensively used brominated flame retardant worldwide, primarily employed reactively in printed circuit boards and additively in plastic housings of electronic equipment. This study systematically evaluates human exposure to TBBPA from electronic devices and characterizes associated risks. A targeted literature review of 55 peer-reviewed studies published over the past 25 years was conducted, focusing on global TBBPA occurrence in environmental media, occupational and residential settings, and biological matrices.
