Monoaminergic modulation of cortical and thalamic inputs to the dorsal striatum (DS) is crucial for reward-based learning and action control. While dopamine has been extensively investigated in this context, the synaptic effects of serotonin (5-HT) have been largely unexplored. Here, we investigated how serotonergic signaling affects associative plasticity at glutamatergic synapses on the striatal projection neurons of the direct pathway (dSPNs). Combining chemogenetic and optogenetic approaches reveals that impeding serotonergic signaling preferentially gates spike-timing-dependent long-term depression (t-LTD) at thalamostriatal synapses. This t-LTD requires dampened activity of the 5-HT4 receptor subtype, which we demonstrate controls dendritic Ca signals by regulating BK channel activity, and which preferentially localizes at the dendritic shaft. The synaptic effects of 5-HT signaling at thalamostriatal inputs provide insights into how changes in serotonergic levels associated with behavioral states or pathology affect striatal-dependent processes.

Purpose: Limitations remain in peripheral nerve injury treatments. Previous studies suggest that serotonergic signaling promotes nerve regeneration by facilitating reinnervation and modulating neuronal guidance. This study aimed to evaluate the potential of serotonergic peripheral neuroregeneration using Zolmitriptan, a serotonin receptor agonist.

Objective: To investigate the pharmacological mechanism of Compound Xuanju Capsule in the treatment of erectile dysfunction (ED) by using network pharmacology and molecular docking technology.
Methods: The active ingredients and targets of Compound Xuanju Capsule were screened using Traditional Chinese Medicine Systematic Pharmacology Database and Analysis Platform (TCMSP). TTD, OMIM, DrugBank and GeneCards databases were used to obtain genes related to ED, and the union of the results was taken as the disease genes of ED.

As typical environmental hormones, endocrine-disrupting chemicals (EDCs) have become a global environmental health issue of high concern due to their property of interfering with the endocrine systems of organisms. As a commonly used substitute for bisphenol A (BPA), bisphenol E (BPE) has been frequently detected in environmental matrices such as soil and water in recent years. Existing research has unveiled the developmental and reproductive toxicity of BPE; however, only one in vitro cellular experiment has preliminarily indicated potential neurotoxic risks, with its underlying mechanisms remaining largely unelucidated in the current literature.

Transcranial sonography (TCS) is widely acknowledged as a frontline imaging tool in movement disorder practice, particularly for separating idiopathic Parkinson's disease from its many mimics. In recent years, however, investigators have extended its reach, showing that the same portable probe can also capture structural and hemodynamic signatures of neuropsychiatric disorders and the major dementia syndromes. Across neuropsychiatry, a dim ("hypoechoic") median raphe emerges as the sonographic hallmark of serotonergic imbalance: it recurs in major depressive disorder, bipolar depression, and panic disorder, predicts better response to selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, and even foreshadows post-stroke depression.

Thrombosis is a life-threatening complication in Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection. This study aims to conduct a statistical analysis of the incidence of blood clots and lipid concentrations, and to examine the networks of oxylipins in hospitalised patients with SARS-CoV-2. Serum samples of 1731 hospitalised patients with SARS-COV-2 were used to measure six lipid parameters: total cholesterol (TC), triglycerides (TG), high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C), low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C), apolipoprotein A (apoA), and apolipoprotein B (apoB).
