Macromolecular binding to minerals is of great importance in the formation of biofilms, and carboxylate functional groups have been found to play a pivotal role in the functioning of these macromolecules. Here we present both fluorescence time-resolved anisotropy measurements and simulation data on the conformational behaviour and binding of a poly acrylic acid polymer. In solution the polymer exhibits a pH dependent behaviour, with a coiled conformation at a low pH and extended conformation at higher pH values. The polymer is readily adsorbed on the surface of calcite, preferring to bind in an extended conformation, with the strength of the adsorption dependent on the pH and presence of counter ions. We discuss the reasons why the calculated adsorption free energy differs from that obtained from a Langmuir isotherm analysis, showing that they refer to different quantities. The enhanced binding of the extended conformations shows the importance of flexibility in the binding of macromolecules.

For recovering whey soybean protein (WSP) from soybean whey wastewater (SWW) in food industry, a foam separation method for separating WSP by using temperature-responsive Janus sheets (MF-JNSs-PN) as foam stabilizer was established. MF-JNSs-PN was prepared by grafting the temperature-responsive polymer PNIPAM onto one side of the sheet inorganic material using BSA@Cu(PO)-MF as the template. MF-JNSs-PN has a good ability to stabilize the foam due to inducing the hydrophilicity and hydrophobicity transition by adjusting the temperature.

Enoxaparin sodium (ES), a low molecular weight heparin derivative, has recently been recognized for its diverse biological activities. In particular, the ability of heparin to modulate inflammation has been utilized to enhance the biocompatibility of bone implant materials. In this study, we utilized poly (methyl methacrylate) (PMMA), a drug loading bone implant material, as a matrix and combined this with enoxaparin sodium (ES) to create enoxaparin sodium PMMA cement (ES-PMMA) to investigate the regulatory effects of ES on inflammatory responses in bone tissue from an animal model.

α-Lipoic acid (LA) has recently emerged as an attractive, inexpensive monomer for synthesizing degradable polymers via ring-opening of its 1,2-dithiolane, introducing easily cleavable disulfide linkages into polymer backbones. Reversible addition-fragmentation chain transfer (RAFT) copolymerization with vinyl monomers enables access to degradable poly(disulfide)s with controlled molecular weights. However, conventional thermal RAFT methods suffer from oxygen sensitivity, limited LA incorporation (<40 mol%), and modest degrees of polymerization (DP < 300).

A one-pot strategy was developed to fabricate a strong and ductile elastomer composed of chitin nanocrystals and poly(deep eutectic solvent) (ChNC/PDES), based on a dual-network structure formed through glycidyl methacrylate (GMA)associated modification, polymerization and crosslinking. This approach enables the integrated pretreatment, chemical modification, and nanodispersion of chitin within a lactic acid/choline chloride deep eutectic solvent (DES) system. Whereafter, the ultraviolet initiated polymerization of GMA with ChNC and DES components produced a homogeneous elastomer with a maximum tensile strength of 4.

Neither single electrolyte design nor solid electrolyte interface (SEI) engineering alone can effectively resolve the dual challenges of sluggish reaction kinetics and unstable interfaces in polymer-based lithium metal batteries (LMBs). Herein, a rational integrated design strategy is adopted to simultaneously fabricate poly(trifluoroethyl methacrylate-co-4-oxo-5,8,11-trioxa-3-azatridec-12-en-1-yl acrylate)-based gel polymer electrolyte (PTDA-GPE) and stable composite SEI during the thermal-induced in situ polymerization process. The resulting PTDA-GPE demonstrates superior Li transport kinetics (1.
