Background: Increasing evidences for the role of tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-alpha) in the occurrence of ischemic stroke (IS) have shown that it belongs to pro-inflammatory cytokines and carries functional polymorphisms (TNF-alpha -238G/A and TNF-alpha -308G/A) in its promoter region, which affect their transcription rate and plasma cytokine level. We determined the association between these polymorphisms and the occurrence of IS in the Chinese Han and Uyghur populations.
Methods: The TNF-alpha -238G/A and TNF-alpha -308G/A polymorphisms were determined by TaqMan SNP Genotyping assays in cases (n=748) and controls (n=748). Multivariate logistic regression analysis was used to show the association between the TNF-alpha genotypes and the IS events.
Results: No significant difference was found in the association between TNF-alpha -238G/A and IS in both ethnic populations. The result showed that carriage of the TNF-alpha -308GA was a decreased risk of IS in both Han and Uyghur populations (OR:0.453, 0.213). In addition, the significant difference in GA frequency in TNF-alpha was found between the two ethnic controls (P=0.000).
Conclusions: TNF-alpha -308 GA heterozygous may be an independent protective factor for IS in the Chinese Han and Uyghur populations.

Methods: A total of 985 ACS patients (668 Han and 317 Uyghur Chinese) representing different ACS subtypes were enrolled.

Purpose: To measure and compare the palatal masticatory mucosal thickness from maxillary canine to the second molar region of Han and Uygur periodontally healthy people in Xinjiang area by using CBCT, and to analyze the related factors.
Methods: CBCT images of 48 periodontally healthy subjects in each nationality were selected from the Dental Clinic of the First Affiliated Hospital of Xinjiang Medical University according to the inclusion and exclusion criteria. The thickness of the palatal masticatory mucosa, the height and width of the palatine fornices, and the location of the greater palatine foramen were measured at the distance of 3, 6, 9 and 12 mm from the gingival margin.

Scheelite-type oxides have been extensively investigated in diverse inorganic systems due to their exceptional structural versatility and promising multifunctional properties, ranging from luminescence to ionic conduction. However, despite decades of research, borates have remained conspicuously absent from this important structural family. This exclusion stems from a fundamental synthetic and structure chemistry challenge: the difficulty in achieving the essential zero-dimensional anionic framework composed of isolated tetrahedral units, a defining characteristic of scheelite-type materials.

Objective: To study the genetic polymorphism of red blood cell blood group among in Shenzhen Han, Indian and Xinjiang Uyghur populations, to provide scientific basis for the demand prediction and collection strategy of rare blood group, and to explore the genetic differences of blood group between Han and Caucasians.
Methods: The haplotypes of antigen coding genes of 10 target blood group systems from 87 Han Chinese and 50 Indian blood donors in Shenzhen, and 49 healthy Uyghur people in Xinjiang were obtained by three-generation sequencing technology, and the polymorphism and frequency characteristics were analyzed.
Results: Only a single genotype was detected the Langereis and Vel blood group systems in samples from three different populations.
