Purpose: To observe the effects of electric fields (EFs) on the migration of human retinal pigment epithelial (RPE) cells and to explore possible related mechanisms.
Methods: Cultured human RPE cells were exposed to EFs, and images of the cells were obtained at regular intervals to evaluate the cell migration and viability. Distribution of F-actin and beta1 integrin was measured by immunohistochemistry. Expression of beta1 integrin was determined by PCR and Western blotting.
Results: Exposure to EFs resulted in a cathodal-directed migration of RPE cells and a cathodal accumulation of F-actin and beta1 integrin in the cells. EF stimulation increased expression of beta1 integrin both in mRNA and protein levels. These effects could be inhibited by cytochalasin B.
Conclusion: EFs induce directed migration of RPE cells, and this effect is, to some extent, regulated by the interaction between cytoskeleton and integrins.

Perineural invasion (PNI) is a common pathological characteristic of pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC), closely linked to postoperative recurrence, metastasis, and unfavorable prognosis. Nevertheless, the precise mechanisms that govern PNI in PDAC remain poorly elucidated. Here, group-specific component protein (GC) is identified as one of the most significantly upregulated genes related to PNI, primarily derived from malignant ductal cells compared to other cell types.

Drug-resistant epilepsy (DRE) is frequently characterized by pathological mossy fiber sprouting (MFS), which is a defining indicator of aberrant synaptic remodeling within the hippocampus. Despite extensive investigations of the molecular underpinnings of MFS, they remain only partially elucidated. Synaptic vesicle protein 2A (SV2A) is a key modulator of neurotransmitter exocytosis that has been associated with epileptogenesis.

Taxanes are widely used anticancer agents that stabilize microtubules and arrest cell division. However, their efficacy in colon cancer is limited by the chemoresistance associated with βIII-tubulin (TUBB3) upregulation. Herein, ferrocenyl, ruthenocenyl, and 1-adamantyl analogs of paclitaxel were synthesized and biologically evaluated.

Intestinal organoids are three-dimensional cellular structures that are cultured in laminin-rich Matrigel, yielding organoids with correct, basal-out polarity. Removal of Matrigel results in organoids with reversed, apical-out polarity, demonstrating its vital role. However, Matrigel's composition is ill-defined, and its pathogenic origin poses challenges in reproducibility.

Sepsis-associated pulmonary fibrosis (SAPF) is a life-threatening condition driven by persistent fibroblast activation and excessive extracellular matrix (ECM) deposition. While metabolic reprogramming, profibrotic extracellular vesicles (EVs), and integrin activation are implicated in pulmonary fibrosis, their interplay remains unclear. This study reveals that succinic acid, a product of glycometabolic reprogramming, promotes macrophage-mediated endocytosis, driving the release of profibrotic EVs.
