The recent discovery of a strong positive relationship between angiosperm genome size and stomatal guard cell length (GCL) opens the possibility of using plant fossil guard cell size as a proxy for changes in angiosperm genome size over periods of environmental change. The responses of GCL to environmental stimuli are currently unknown and may obscure this predictive relationship. Here, we investigated the effects of environmental variables (atmospheric CO2, drought, relative humidity, irradiance, ultraviolet radiation and pathogen attack) on GCL in the model plant Arabidopsis thaliana to quantify environmentally induced variation. GCL responded to all variables tested, but the changes incurred did not significantly impinge on the predictive capability of the relationship.

The COVID-19 pandemic caused by the novel coronavirus SARS-CoV-2 has highlighted the critical need for safe and effective vaccines. In this study, subunit nanovaccine formulations were developed using the receptor-binding domain (RBD) of the SARS-CoV-2 spike (S) protein encapsulated in polymeric nanoparticles composed of poly(ethylene glycol)-block-poly(ε-caprolactone) (PEG-PCL). Two surfactants, poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) and sodium cholate (SC), were evaluated during formulation via a modified water-in-oil-in-water (w/o/w) emulsion-solvent evaporation method.

Biofilm formation and other virulence phenotypes under quorum sensing regulation play a vital role in the pathogenicity of Aeromonas hydrophila, triggering the emergence of multi-drug resistance (MDR) which increases fish mortality, environmental issues, and economic loss in aquaculture, necessitating the discovery of novel drugs to bypass standard antibiotics. Here, quorum quenching (QQ) may be a sustainable anti-virulent approach. β-Lactamase enzyme obtained from Chromohalobacter sp.

Cystofilobasidium infirmominiatum, biotechnologically significant yeast, is increasingly garnering attention due to its superior ability to produce valuable carotenoids and lipids. Nonetheless, until now, the reference genome that governs the biosynthesis of carotenoids and lipids in C. infirmominiatum remains unreported.

TP53 mutations are highly associated with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), a common and deadly cancer. However, few primary drivers in the progression of HCC with mutant TP53 have been identified. To uncover tumor suppressors in human HCC, a genome-wide CRISPR/Cas9-based screening of primary human hepatocytes with MYC and TP53 overexpression (MT-PHHs) is performed in xenografts.

Whole exome sequencing (WES) is a well-established tool for clinical diagnostics, is more cost-effective and faster to analyse than whole genome sequencing and has been implemented to uplift diagnostic rates in human disease. However, challenges remain to achieve comprehensive and uniform coverage of targets, and high sensitivity and specificity. Differences in genomic target regions and exome capture mechanism between kits may lead to differences in overall coverage uniformity and capture efficiency.
