The rostral migratory stream (RMS) is the main pathway by which newly born subventricular zone cells reach the olfactory bulb (OB) in rodents. However, the RMS in the adult human brain has been elusive. We demonstrate the presence of a human RMS, which is unexpectedly organized around a lateral ventricular extension reaching the OB, and illustrate the neuroblasts in it. The RMS ensheathing the lateral olfactory ventricular extension, as seen by magnetic resonance imaging, cell-specific markers, and electron microscopy, contains progenitor cells with migratory characteristics and cells that incorporate 5-bromo-2'-deoxyuridine and become mature neurons in the OB.

Background: Primary healthcare centers (PHC) play a pivotal role in the first-line management of patients with diabetes and hypertension, major risk factors for heart failure (HF) development. Point-of-care cardiac ultrasound (POCUS), integrated as an extension of the physical examination, holds significant potential to enhance diagnostic accuracy and clinical management in this setting.
Objectives: Evaluate the impact of POCUS on clinical decision-making in patients with HF and at risk of developing HF in PHC and compare POCUS findings with clinical assessment alone, conventional echocardiography, and electrocardiogram results.

Background: Fabry disease is a progressive, X-linked lysosomal disorder caused by reduced or absent α-galactosidase A activity due to variants. Females with Fabry disease often experience diagnostic delays and an underappreciated disease burden owing to their variable disease presentation and progression.
Methods: We conducted a analysis of all females from the clinical studies FACETS (NCT00925301) and ATTRACT (NCT01218659) and their open-label extensions, assessing baseline characteristics and long-term efficacy of migalastat regarding cardiac and renal function and Fabry-associated clinical events (FACEs).

Hypertension is the most common cause of intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH). The presentation, etiology, and outcome of ICH among young adults may vary compared to other age groups. The prior literature from our region has described a variety of etiologies with an inconsistent relationship to hypertension, which is the commonest cause of primary ICH in adults overall.

Background Children born with lower birth weight face an increased risk of developing cardiovascular disease later in life. We hypothesize that cardiovascular protein biomarkers in cord blood, associated with birth weight SDS and systolic cardiac function, may reveal mechanisms behind early programming of cardiovascular function. Method We investigated the association between birth weight SDS and plasma levels of 184 circulating proteins determined by Proximity Extension Assay (PEA) in cord blood from 48 children.

Surgery for fourth ventricular tumors (FVT) is plagued by potential CSF blockage after the tumor removal due to a plethora of reasons. Thus, we explored the use of aqueduct-fourth ventricle-cisterna magna (AFVCM) shunting as prophylactic procedure for postoperative hydrocephalus after FVT resection. We retrospectively gathered the data of patients who underwent surgery of the fourth ventricle tumor between January 2019 and December 2021 at the Department of Neurosurgery in West China Hospital of Sichuan University.
