Article Abstract

Objective: The skeletal Class III malocclusion often occurs in ethnic Asia population, and it is difficult to obtain an ideal results if only treated with protraction headgear (PH). However, the combined rapid palatal expansion (RPE), Edgewise Technique and PH can reach it, so the authors investigated the methods and characteristics of combined RPE, Edgewise Technique and PH in the treatment of skeletal Class III malocclusion.

Methods: Fifteen patients, aged 8.5-12 years, including six males and 9 females, with skeletal Class III malocclusion and maxillary retrusion were selected for this study. Radiographs of left hand and wrist showed that all patients were at the pre-pubertal stage. The duration of treatment was nine months on average.

Results: The SNA and A-ptm increased with a mean of cephalometric analysis, which showed significant difference (P < 0.05).

Conclusion: Obvious skeletal and profile changes can be achieved with combined RPE, Edgewise Technique and PH in the treatment of early skeletal Class III malocclusion.

Aims: Skeletal muscle energetic augmentation might be a mechanism via which intravenous iron improves symptoms in heart failure, but no direct measurement of intrinsic mitochondrial function has been performed to support this notion. This molecular substudy of the FERRIC-HF II trial tested the hypothesis that ferric derisomaltose (FDI) would improve electron transport chain activity, given its high dependence on iron-sulfur clusters which facilitate electron transfer during oxidative phosphorylation.

Methods And Results: Vastus lateralis skeletal muscle biopsies were taken before and 2 weeks after randomization.

Objective: This study aimed to investigate the effects of structured orofacial muscle rehabilitation training (OMRT) on the recovery of facial expression muscles in patients with skeletal Class II malocclusion after orthognathic surgery.

Study Design: This randomized controlled trial enrolled 56 skeletal Class II malocclusion patients who underwent orthognathic surgery. The intervention group received structured OMRT, while the control group received standard postoperative care.

FGF9-FGFR2 Signaling via Osteocytes-Preosteoblasts Crosstalks to Mediate Mechanotransduction-Driven Intramembranous Osteogenesis in the Underdeveloped Maxilla.

Maxillary underdevelopment is a critical component of skeletal Class III malocclusion, closely linked to altered biomechanical signaling. Mechanical stimulation through early facemask protraction can effectively promote maxillary growth, yet the underlying mechanotransduction mechanisms remain unclear. In this study, fibroblast growth factor 9 (FGF9) is identified as a key biomechanical responder in maxillary development.

Aim: To evaluate the association between vertical and sagittal facial profile characteristics and the diagnosis/severity of Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA) based on hospital-based polysomnography (PSG) in children attending their first orthodontic visit.

Materials And Methods: 3671 children aged 7 to 9 years who attended a private practice for a first orthodontic consultation were included. Apnea/Hypopnea Index (AHI) was measured from PSG, while vertical and skeletal facial profile characteristics were assessed according to the Modified Sassouni Analysis on lateral cephalogram.

Hyperdivergent skeletal Class II malocclusion is largely genetically determined and poses significant challenges in orthodontic treatment, particularly due to compromised facial aesthetics, reduced bite force and airway narrowing. Traditionally, orthognathic surgery has been the standard treatment for correcting such skeletal discrepancies. However, the advent of temporary skeletal anchorage devices (TSADs) has expanded the possibilities for orthodontic camouflage by allowing effective vertical control.
