Dion-Jacobson (DJ) two-dimensional (2D) perovskites have emerged as promising photovoltaic materials due to their superior structural and chemical stability compared to three-dimensional (3D) perovskites. However, their optoelectronic performance remains limited by imperfections at interfaces and a fundamental understanding of these interfacial properties is missing. Herein, we present interfacial structure-property relationships in DJ perovskites by directly probing buried interfaces using combined spectroscopic and microscopic characterization techniques.

While organic-inorganic hybrid perovskites (ABX) hold immense photovoltaic potential, operational instability originating from defect-mediated ion migration and light-induced degradation remains a critical bottleneck. Here, we adopt CsPbICl nanocrystals (CPIC-NCs) and CsPbCl nanocrystals (CPC-NCs) to modify the interface of the perovskite light-absorbing layer. Beyond conventional defect-healing roles (Cs/halide filling of the A/X-site vacancies), this modification can fundamentally alter the degradation pathways of perovskite films under light exposure.

Circular RNA (circRNA) is ubiquitously expressed in highly differentiated eukaryotes, playing an extremely vital regulatory role in muscle growth and development. In this study, we identified circPICALM, a novel circRNA which consists of exons 5 to 9 of the PICALM gene, exhibiting differential expression in the longissimus dorsi muscle (LD) of adult (QA) and newborn (QN) Queshan Black pigs. CircPICALM is resistant to RNase R, mainly located in the cytoplasm with potential coding capacities.

Strategies for controlling the size of metal species using zeolites and their catalytic behavior in industrially relevant processes have attracted widespread attention, but the effect of H2O and CO2 on the catalytic performance of zeolite-based metal catalysts remains obscure. This study investigated the influence of H2O and CO2 on CO oxidation over zeolite-based metal catalysts, along with the precise control of active sites through the regulation of Lewis acidity. It was found that the presence of H2O enhanced CO oxidation and alleviated the inhibitory effect of CO2.

Pharmaceutical biowastes, rich in organic matter and high in moisture, are typical light industry byproducts with waste and renewable attributes. Thermochemical and biochemical conversion technologies transform these residues into value-added bioproducts, including biofuels, biofertilizers, and bio-carbon materials. Hydrothermal pretreatment effectively removes toxic substances and enhances feedstock for these processes.

The synthesis of primary amines from renewable biomass and its derivatives through reductive amination has garnered significant attention. How to construct efficient non-noble-metal catalysts that enable low-temperature catalysis still remains challenging. Herein, we report a Cu-doped Co@CoO heterostructure catalyst that features structural Co-CoCuO bifunctional sites, which enable room temperature reductive amination of various aldehydes with 1.

Article Synopsis
  • The study explored the use of electrical impedance tomography (EIT) to evaluate the impact of thoracic epidural blockade (TEB) combined with general anesthesia on lung function during one-lung ventilation (OLV) in patients undergoing thoracic surgery.
  • Thirty patients were randomly assigned to either a control group or a TEB group, where EIT measurements and blood gas analysis were performed to assess pulmonary perfusion distribution and ventilation-perfusion (V/Q) matching at different stages of the procedure.
  • Results indicated that TEB significantly decreased mean arterial pressure and worsened arterial oxygen levels and shunt percentages during OLV, suggesting it adversely affected respiratory function in these patients.

Introduction: The prevalence of chronic conditions is increasing. Given that the majority of chronic patients are managed by primary healthcare providers, there is a need to integrate primary care with public health to address the prevailing situation and enhance patient outcomes. The purpose of this study is to establish, implement and evaluate an integrated primary care and public health model in China for patients with chronic conditions.

Background: Backfat serves as a vital fat reservoir in pigs, and its excessive accumulation will adversely impact pig growth performance, farming efficiency, and pork quality. The aim of this research is to integrate assay for transposase-accessible chromatin with high-throughput sequencing (ATAC-seq) and RNA sequencing (RNA-seq) to explore the molecular mechanisms underlying porcine backfat deposition.

Results: ATAC-seq analysis identified 568 genes originating from 698 regions exhibiting differential accessibility, which were significantly enriched in pathways pertinent to adipocyte differentiation and lipid metabolism.

Small insertions and deletions (indels) are critical yet challenging genetic variations with significant clinical implications. However, the identification of pathogenic indels from neutral variants in clinical contexts remains an understudied problem. Here, we developed INDELpred, a machine-learning-based predictive model for discerning pathogenic from benign indels.

  • End-expiratory lung volume (EELV) decreases in acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), particularly in patients with COVID-19 associated ARDS (CARDS), but its utility for monitoring disease progression is not well-studied.
  • A study involving mechanically ventilated CARDS patients in Shanghai found that higher EELV measurements were significantly associated with better survival outcomes, suggesting a potential predictive role for EELV in these patients.
  • Results indicated that EELV is a valuable metric for assessing the severity of CARDS and could help in monitoring patient prognosis, as survivors showed sustained higher EELV levels post-intubation compared to non-survivors.

Understanding the liquid preservation ability of boar sperm is pivotal for efficient management and breeding of livestock. Although sperm proteins play an important role in semen quality and freezability, how the levels of protein change in boar sperm with different liquid preservation abilities at 17 °C remains unclear. In this study, two groups of boar sperm with extreme difference in liquid preservation ability, namely the good preservation ability (GPA) and the poor preservation ability (PPA) groups, were selected by evaluating sperm motility parameters on the 7th day of liquid preservation at 17 °C.

The preservation of semen is pivotal in animal reproduction to ensure successful fertilization and genetic improvement of livestock and poultry. However, investigating the underlying causes of differences in sperm liquid preservation ability and identifying relevant biomarkers remains a challenge. This study utilized liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS) to analyze the metabolite composition of seminal plasma (SP) from two groups with extreme differences in sperm liquid preservation ability.

It is well known that N6-methyladenosine (m6A) is the most abundant modification in linear RNA molecules, but many circRNA molecules have now been found to have a wide range of m6A modification sites as well. However, there are few relevant studies and information on the expression profile and functional regulatory properties of m6A-modified circRNAs (m6A-circRNAs) in longissimus dorsi. In this study, a total of 12 putative m6A-circRNAs were identified and characterized in the longissimus dorsi of Queshan Black and Large White pigs-8 of them were significantly more expressed in the longissimus dorsi of Queshan Black than in Large White pigs, while the other 4 were the opposite.
