Previous studies have identified the association between cartilage endplate (CEP) degeneration and abnormal mechanical loading. Several studies have reported that intermittent cyclic mechanical tension (ICMT) regulates CEP degeneration via various biological processes and signaling pathways. However, the functions of microRNAs in regulating the cellular responses of CEP chondrocytes to ICMT remain to be elucidated.

Aberrant microRNA (miRNA) biogenesis is correlated with HCC development. We previously demonstrated that peptidyl-prolyl cis-trans isomerase NIMA-interacting 1 (Pin1) participates in miRNA biogenesis and is a potential HCC treatment target.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFOsteogenesis imperfecta (OI) is a rare congenital disorder characterized by bone fragility and fractures, and associated with bone deformity, short stature, dentin, ligament and blue‑gray eye sclera. OI is caused by a heterozygous mutation in collagen α‑1(I) chain (COL1A1) or collagen α‑2(I) chain (COL1A2) genes that encode α chains of type I collagen. Collagen α chain peptide contains an N‑propeptide, which has a role in assembly and processing of collagen.

A total of 130, 635 neonates were screened from the year of 2013 to 2017. Neonates suspected for G6PD deficiency were further analyzed by quantitatively enzymatic assay and G6PD mutation analysis.

Yes-associated protein (YAP) is a major downstream molecular of the Hippo pathway, which plays important role in cancer development. Netrin-1 conveys oncogenic activity in many types of malignant tumors. However, the downstream signaling of netrin-1 mediating its oncogenic effects in gastric cancer (GC) is not well defined.

Pathogenic bacterial infection has been becoming a global threat toward people's health, especially the massive usage of antibiotics due to the lack of antibacterial agents with less side effects. Developing new nanoagents to fight pathogenic bacteria has provided enormous new possibilities in the treatment of bacterial infections, such as graphene-based two-dimensional (2D) antibacterial nanoagents with different bacterial inhibition capabilities; however, mussel-inspired design of near-infrared (NIR)-responsive and biocompatible Ag-graphene nanoagents possessing efficient and versatile bacterial disinfection activities have rarely been reported. In this study, we developed a new kind of antibacterial nanoagent, dopamine-conjugated polysaccharide sulfate-anchored and -protected Ag-graphene (Ag@G-sodium alginate sulfate ((SAS)) nanocomposite, to combat bacterial infection and contamination in different application fields.

Background: The aim of this study was to investigate the performance of the Bruker Biotyper matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization time-of-flight mass spectrometry (MALDI-TOF MS) and Vitek MS systems for identification of genetically-confirmed blood isolates of Candida tropicalis that had been grown on several types of culture media commonly used for primary fungal isolation.
Methods: Isolates included 105 from the National China Hospital Invasive Fungal Surveillance Net program (CHIF-NET) and 120 from National Taiwan University Hospital (NTUH). Culture media tested for CHIF-NET isolates included trypticase soy agar supplemented with 5% sheep blood (BAP), Sabouraud dextrose agar (SDA-C), CHROMagar, China blue agar (CBA), chocolate agar supplemented with vancomycin (CAP-VA), and MacConkey agar (MAC).
Background: Silver-Russell syndrome (SRS) is one of the imprinting disorders characterized by prenatal and postnatal growth restriction, relative macrocephaly, body asymmetry and characteristic facial features. ~ 10% of SRS cases are known to be associated with maternal uniparental disomy of chromosome 7 (UPD(7)mat). Mosaic maternal segmental UPD of 7q (UPD(7q)mat) is very rare, had only been described in one case before.

Background: The incidence of congenital hypothyroidism (CH) differs significantly among different ethnicities and regions, and early differentiation of transient CH is important to avoid unnecessary prolonged treatment with L-T.
Objective: To investigate the incidence of CH based on the newborn screening program in Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, China, and to analyze the predictors that might allow for an early differentiation between permanent (P) and transient (T) CH.
Design And Methods: Data from newborn screening program over a seven-year period (January 2009 to January 2016) at Guangxi Maternal and Child Health Hospital are analyzed.
Background: Syncytin-1 is improperly expressed in several cancers. However, its expression profile across leukocytes in leukemia patients has not yet been analyzed.
Methods: A total of 50 AML cases and 14 B-cell ALL patients were consecutively recruited.
The spin-orbit interaction enables interconversion between a charge current and a spin current. It is usually believed that in a nonmagnetic metal (NM) or at a NM/ferromagnetic metal (FM) bilayer interface, the symmetry of spin-orbit effects requires that the spin current, charge current, and spin orientation are all orthogonal to each other. Here we demonstrate the presence of spin-orbit effects near the NM/FM interface that exhibit a very different symmetry, hereafter referred to as spin-rotation symmetry, from the conventional spin Hall effect while the spin polarization is rotating about the magnetization.

Polyaniline nanotubes were successfully synthesized by a facile in situ chemical oxidative polymerization method using urea as soft template. When the urea/aniline molar ratio is 3:1, the as-prepared nanotubular polyaniline (PANI-3) shows regular and uniform square capillaries, which provides a high electrode/electrolyte contact, easy ion diffusion and enhanced electroactive regions during the electrochemical process, leading to weak internal resistance and improved electrochemical performance. The PANI-3 sample exhibits a high specific capacitance of 405 F/g at current density of 0.

Background: 3-M syndrome is a clinically recognizable yet under-diagnosed primordial growth retardation disorder. Molecular testing for CUL7, OBSL1 or CCDC8 genes can provide confirmed diagnosis for patients at prenatal or early age. So far, the clinical and molecular features of Chinese 3-M syndrome patients have not been reported.

The ANE is considered to arise from the bulk of the ferromagnet (FM) and the proximity-induced FM boundary layer. We fabricate a FM alloy with zero Nernst coefficient to mitigate the ANE contamination of SSE and insert a thin layer of Cu to separate the heavy metal (HM) from the FM to avoid the proximity contribution.
