Bivalve farming, a vital component of global aquaculture, has been proposed as a potential marine carbon dioxide removal (mCDR) strategy, yet its role remains contentious. Using field mesocosms, we demonstrate that oyster filter-feeding enhances mCDR by accelerating the formation of particulate and dissolved organic carbon in the water column and promoting organic carbon deposition in sediments. This process shifts the water column toward a more autotrophic and alkaline state, effectively sequestering CO from the atmosphere.

Background: Ankylosing spondylitis (AS) is an immune-mediated chronic inflammatory disease. When AS is complicated by intervertebral disc degeneration (IVDD), disease complexity increases substantially, often resulting in poor long-term outcomes. Although previous studies have explored the mechanisms linking AS and IVDD, reliable tools for precise risk prediction and early intervention remain scarce.

Terrestrial ecosystems represent the most direct and principal reservoirs of plastic contamination on Earth. The toxic effects of microplastic exposure on terrestrial plants have been analyzed from the perspectives of direct toxicity, indirect toxicity, and combined toxicity with other pollutants. By investigating the impacts on the growth, behavior, and oxidative stress responses of soil animals, the toxicological patterns of microplastics have been elucidated.

Regenerating family protein 2 (Reg2) is a trophic factor which stimulates β-cell replication and resists islet destruction. However, Reg2 also serves as an islet autoantigen, which makes it complicated to judge the effectiveness in treating diabetes. How Reg2 treatment behaves in non-obese diabetic (NOD) mice is to be investigated.

To accurately estimate the age of individual tree and to achieve full-cycle sustainable management of natural forest in Great Xing'an Mountains of northeastern China, we constructed individual tree age prediction model using stepwise regression and random forest algorithms based on 44 fixed plots data and 280 stan-dard tree cores obtained from the Pangu Forest Farm. We analyzed the influence of stand structure, site conditions, and competition index on the accuracy of model prediction. The model was evaluated by the coefficient of determination (), root mean square error (RMSE), and mean absolute error (MAE).

Phosphorus (P) limitation of ecosystem processes is widespread in terrestrial habitats. While a few auxiliary metabolic genes (AMGs) in bacteriophages from aquatic habitats are reported to have the potential to enhance P-acquisition ability of their hosts, little is known about the diversity and potential ecological function of P-acquisition genes encoded by terrestrial bacteriophages. Here, we analyze 333 soil metagenomes from five terrestrial habitat types across China and identify 75 viral operational taxonomic units (vOTUs) that encode 105 P-acquisition AMGs.

Article Synopsis
  • The study tested a new type of silica sorbent bonded with perfluorobenzene for adsorbing polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) from hexane, showing it outperformed traditional sorbents like octadecyl and phenyl-bonded silica.
  • The stronger interactions (π-hole···π bonds) between the sorbent and PAHs were identified as the reason for its superior performance compared to weaker interactions in other sorbents.
  • This method allowed for efficient solid-phase extraction of PAHs from soil samples without needing solvent replacement, achieving recoveries of 75.1% to 104.6% with stable results and detection limits between 0.1 to 2 ng

Background: Intradural disc herniation(IDH) caused by trauma is a rare type of disease, which is difficult to diagnose clinically and is easily misdiagnosed. We received a patient with the disease, reported the case to share the process of diagnosis and treatment and put forward our own opinions, so as to increase the probability of correct diagnosis.

Case Presentation: We report the case of a 48-year-old male who fell from a scaffold at a height of 2 m.

Objective: Although the role of anterior cervical titanium plate system in stabilizing the spine sequence and promoting bone graft fusion has been widely recognized, more and more attention has been paid to the design of the plate itself and the complications caused by it. In order to solve the problems of poor stability of internal fixation, plate displacement and screw looseness, we designed the new PRUNUS spine plate system. Hence, the present study was conducted to describe observe and evaluate the clinical efficacy of a new type of three-leaf reinforced cervical anterior screw plate system (PRUNUS nailing system) developed for anterior cervical surgery.

As an important commercial form of vanadium, vanadium pentoxide (VO) is widely used in various modern industries, and its environmental impacts and ecotoxicity have been extensively studied. In this research, the ecotoxicity of VO to earthworms (Eisenia fetida) in soil was tested by exposure to VO at a series of doses, and biochemical response indices, such as the superoxide dismutase (SOD) and catalase (CAT) enzyme activity and malondialdehyde (MDA) content, were analysed to determine the mechanism by which antioxidant enzymes respond to VO exposure. The bioaccumulation factor (BAF) of vanadium pentoxide in the earthworms and soil was also measured to explore the bioaccumulation process of VO in the test period.

The soil environmental pollution situation has been severe in recent years, but studies on evaluating with bioavailability testing and prediction models are lacking, which makes it difficult to accurately assess the ecological risks of contaminated soil. As an important indicator of bioavailability, the bioaccessibility of cadmium (Cd), arsenic (As), copper (Cu), zinc (Zn), and lead (Pb) in the soil was analyzed in this study. The bioaccessibility content and their corresponding soil property data were screened and systematically analyzed to explore the relationship between bioaccessibility content and soil properties.

Sustained expression of B-cell receptor (BCR) critically contributes to the development of diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL). However, little is known on the mechanism regulating BCR expression. In the present study, we explored the biological significance of functional intergenic repeating RNA element (FIRRE) in DLBCL and its regulation on BCR.

Cyclin-dependent kinase 12 (CDK12) is a transcription-associated kinase that participates in various cellular processes. However, its regulatory role in the progression of diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL), which is the most prevalent subtype of non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL), is still elusive and controversial. The expression of CDK12 was detected by immunohistochemistry (IHC), RT-qPCR was performed to detect miR-28-5p expression of OCI-LY3 and SU-DHL-4 cells.
