Newborn piglet diarrhea caused by enterotoxigenic (ETEC) causes serious economic losses in the swine industry worldwide. Heat-stable enterotoxins (STa) secreted by ETEC can damage the intestine, resulting in villus atrophy and shedding, which is the main cause of diarrhea in newborn piglets; however, the mechanism is not clear. This experiment was conducted (three-day-old suckling mice) and (IPEC-J2 cells) to explore the effect of STa on the intestinal epithelium by comparing the differences after infection with STa toxin-secreting O142 or STa-knockout O142ΔestA.

Background: With the increase in the aging population worldwide, Alzheimer's disease has become a rapidly increasing public health concern. In the Global Burden of Disease Study 2019, there are three risk factors judged to have evidence for a causal link to Alzheimer's disease and other dementias: smoking, high body-mass index (HBMI), and high fasting plasma glucose (HFPG).

Objective: This study aimed to analyze trends in AD mortality and the relevant burden across China from 1990 to 2019, as well as their correlation with age, period, and birth cohort.

Objective: Metabolic risks (MRs) are the primary determinants of breast cancer (BC) mortality among women. This study aimed to examine the changing trends in BC mortality associated with MRs and explore how they related to age, time period, and birth cohorts in Chinese women aged 25 and above.

Methods: Data were sourced from the Global Burden of Disease Study 2019 (GBD2019).

Background: Yersinia ruckeri is a pathogen that can cause enteric redmouth disease in salmonid species, damaging global production of economically important fish including rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss). Herein, we conducted the transcriptomic profiling of spleen samples from rainbow trout at 24 h post-Y. ruckeri infection via RNA-seq in an effort to more fully understand their immunological responses.

Clustered regularly interspaced short palindromic repeats (CRISPR)/Cas9 is an emerging gene-editing technology that is widely used in prokaryotes and eukaryotes. It can realize the specific manipulation of the genome efficiently and accurately. CRISPR/Cas9 coupled -Red recombination technology was used to perform genome editing in different genes.

Article Synopsis
  • Brown tumors are bone growths that occur as a result of hyperparathyroidism, often appearing in patients with parathyroid adenomas but can also be caused by parathyroid carcinoma, complicating diagnosis due to similarities with bone metastases seen on F-FDG PET/CT scans.!* -
  • A case study reported a 38-year-old man with parathyroid carcinoma who experienced hypercalcemia, underwent multiple surgeries, and was found to have osteolytic lesions on imaging; a biopsy confirmed these lesions as brown tumors.!* -
  • The study highlights the need for more evaluation on the role of F-FDG PET/CT in diagnosing and managing parathyroid carcinoma, especially in recognizing brown tumors in affected patients

The TSH receptor (TSHR) hinge region was previously considered an inert scaffold connecting the leucine-rich ectodomain to the transmembrane region of the receptor. However, mutation studies have established the hinge region to be an extended hormone-binding site in addition to containing a region which is cleaved thus dividing the receptor into (A) and β (B) subunits. Furthermore, we have shown that monoclonal antibodies directed to the cleaved part of the hinge region (often termed "neutral" antibodies) can induce thyroid cell apoptosis in the absence of cyclic AMP signaling.
