A20, encoded by the TNFAIP3 gene, is a protein linked to Crohn's disease and celiac disease in humans. We now find that mice expressing point mutations in A20's M1-ubiquitin-binding zinc finger 7 (ZF7) motif spontaneously develop proximal enteritis that requires both luminal microbes and T cells. Cellular and transcriptomic profiling reveals expansion of Th17 cells and exuberant expression of IL-17A and IL-22 in intestinal lamina propria of A20ZF7 mice.

Background: Histological activity in ulcerative colitis (UC) has been accepted to be associated with clinical outcomes. This study aimed to investigate the association between the histological activity at diagnosis and endoscopic findings, either at diagnosis or at the first follow-up, in patients with UC.

Methods: Through a retrospective review of 1 year of medical records, this study evaluated the association between histological and endoscopic activity in 51 patients newly diagnosed with UC at our hospital between March 2015 and February 2022.

Irritable bowel syndrome with predominant diarrhea (IBS-D) is a subtype of irritable bowel syndrome that causes frequent loose stools. Although the precise pathophysiology remains unclear, factors, such as gut microbiota imbalance, visceral hypersensitivity, intestinal permeability changes, and stress, play significant roles. Recent studies have suggested that dysbiosis is a key contributor to IBS-D pathogenesis, emphasizing the need for targeted therapeutic strategies.

Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) is a chronic, disabling, and functional bowel disorder that significantly affects social functioning and reduces quality of life and increases social costs. The Korean Society of Neurogastroenterology and Motility published clinical practice guidelines on the management of IBS based on a systematic review of the literature in 2017, and planned to revise these guidelines in light of new evidence on the pathophysiology, diagnosis, and management of IBS. The current revised version of the guidelines is consistent with the previous version and targets adults diagnosed with or suspected of having IBS.

Purpose: To develop of a novel computed tomography (CT) severity score for hemorrhagic fever with renal syndrome (HFRS) and evaluate its correlation with disease severity and adverse outcomes.

Methods: This retrospective study included 37 patients diagnosed with HFRS from January 2012 to December 2023 who had available clinical laboratory and abdominal CT data during the acute phase. The CT severity score (range 0-5) was based on perirenal fat stranding, pararenal fascia thickening, anterior pararenal space fat stranding, ascites, and pleural effusion.

Cytomegalovirus (CMV) infection typically affects immunocompromised individuals. However, CMV-associated enteritis involving the entire small intestine is rare in immunocompetent patients. We report a case of a 60-year-old immunocompetent woman with a history of diabetes mellitus who presented with diarrhea for 3 weeks.

Article Synopsis
  • The study introduces a fluorinated 2D/2D FeNi layered double hydroxide/MXene structure (F-LDH/MX) that enhances oxygen evolution reaction (OER) by utilizing lattice oxygen, which is crucial for improving efficiency.
  • Fluorine enhances the self-evolution of the catalyst in alkaline conditions without needing external current, promoting the formation of active metal oxyhydroxides and increasing active oxygen vacancies that activate lattice oxygen.
  • F-LDH/MX demonstrates exceptional performance with a low overpotential of 251 mV and Tafel slope of 40.28 mV dec, making it suitable for applications like water electrolyzers and Zn-air batteries, showing potential for efficient energy conversion and

Article Synopsis
  • Differential expression analysis of single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq) helps understand gene expression variations due to experimental factors but is complicated by biological and technical variability.
  • Memento is a new tool designed for efficient and reliable differential analysis of gene expression, scalability to large datasets, and the ability to assess mean expression, variability, and gene correlations.
  • When applied to various large datasets, Memento outperformed existing methods by revealing more significant differences in gene expression and highlighting distinct transcriptional regulation mechanisms.

In this study, the effects of Cl radicals on dry development of spin-coated metal oxide resist (MOR) and changes in its surface binding states were investigated to verify the mechanism of dry development. Dry development characteristics of tin hydroxide (Tin OH), which is one of the MOR candidates for next generation lithography, were investigated as functions of process time and temperature using a Cl radicals source. Non-UV-exposed Tin OH film showed a linear etch rate (1.

Purpose: To investigate the common CT findings of high-grade (HG) PanIN and clinical effects in the remnant pancreas in patients with intraductal papillary mucinous neoplasm (IPMN) of the pancreas.

Materials And Methods: Two hundred fifty-one patients with surgically confirmed IPMNs (118 malignant [invasive carcinoma/high-grade dysplasia] and 133 benign [low-grade dysplasia]) were retrospectively enrolled. The grade of PanIN (233 absent/low-grade and 18 high-grade) was recorded, and all patients underwent serial CT follow-up before and after surgery.

Non-aqueous lithium-oxygen batteries (LOBs) have emerged as a promising candidate due to their high theoretical energy density and eco-friendly cathode reaction materials. However, LOBs still suffer from high overpotential and poor cycling stability resulting from difficulties in the decomposition of discharge reaction LiO products. Here, a 3D open network catalyst structure is proposed based on highly-thin and porous multi-metal oxide nanofibers (MMONFs) developed by a facile electrospinning approach coupled with a heat treatment process.

The purpose of the study was to which investigate whether dexamethasone, which has anti-inflammatory and immune response suppression roles, could treat noise-induced hearing loss caused by damage to hair cells in the cochlea. The experiment used 8-week-old CBA mice exposed to white noise at an intensity of 110 dB SPL for 2 h, with hearing loss confirmed by the auditory brainstem response test. Dexamethasone was administered by intraperitoneal injection for 5 days, and the therapeutic effect was investigated for 3 weeks.

The metal halide perovskite CHNHPbI (MAP) can be applied as the shell layer of lead sulfide quantum dots (PbS QDs) for improving solar power conversion efficiency. However, basic physics for this PbS core/MAP shell QD system is still unclear and needs to be clarified to further improve efficiency. Therefore, in this study, we investigate how MAP shell thickness affects device performance and dynamics of charge carriers for PbS QD-sensitized solar cells.

Chronic stimulation can cause T cell dysfunction and limit the efficacy of cellular immunotherapies. Improved methods are required to compare large numbers of synthetic knockin (KI) sequences to reprogram cell functions. Here, we developed modular pooled KI screening (ModPoKI), an adaptable platform for modular construction of DNA KI libraries using barcoded multicistronic adaptors.

Marinolides A and B, two new 24- and 26-membered bacterial macrolactones, were isolated from the marine-derived actinobacterium AJS-327 and their stereostructures initially assigned by bioinformatic data analysis. Macrolactones typically possess complex stereochemistry, the assignments of which have been one of the most difficult undertakings in natural products chemistry, and in most cases, the use of X-ray diffraction methods and total synthesis have been the major methods of assigning their absolute configurations. More recently, however, it has become apparent that the integration of bioinformatic data is growing in utility to assign absolute configurations.
