Owing to their wide utilizations in synthesis and their products prevalence in numerous natural products, pharmaceuticals and functional materials, the alkene difunctionalization methods for the selective transformations of the olefins are important and have attracted much attention form the synthetic chemists. Among them, the electrochemical alkene difunctionalization reaction is particularly promising and has becoming a potent and sustainable tool for the selective transformations of alkenes into vicinal difunctionalized structures in organic synthesis through simultaneous incorporation of two functional groups. Herein, we summarize recent progress in the electrochemical alkene difunctionalization reactions according to the alkene difunctionalization types as well as the category of the radicals over the past five years.

Background: The objectives of this study were to identify hub genes and biological pathways involved in lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD) bioinformatics analysis, and investigate potential therapeutic targets.

Aim: To determine reliable prognostic biomarkers for early diagnosis and treatment of LUAD.

Methods: To identify potential therapeutic targets for LUAD, two microarray datasets derived from the Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) database were analyzed, GSE3116959 and GSE118370.

Marine corrosion is a kind of material failure phenomenon caused by the interaction between metal structure and marine environment. As an efficient and simple anti-corrosion method, gaseous corrosion inhibitor can have a good inhibition effect on marine atmospheric corrosion. How to effectively use the compound environment-friendly vapor phase corrosion inhibitor has been widely and efficiently applied in the field of marine atmospheric corrosion, which has become the key to prevent marine atmospheric corrosion.

Purpose: To explore the feasibility and safety of using the left lateral decubitus position (LLDP) to perform laparoscopic liver resection (LLR) for the treatment of hepatic lesions in segment VI and/or VII.

Patients And Methods: Clinical data concerning 50 patients underwent LLR including 25 patients in the LLDP and the other 25 patients in the routine operative position (ROP) at Shulan (Hangzhou) Hospital Affiliated to Zhejiang Shuren University Shulan International Medical College (Hangzhou, China) and Shulan (Quzhou) Hospital between March 2019 and May 2022 were retrospectively analyzed. All of the patients underwent LLR while in the LLDP or the ROP for the treatment of hepatic lesions located in segment VI and/or VII.

Purpose: Studies have found that vitamin D supplementation may improve blood lipids in patients with polycystic ovary syndrome, but the results are controversial, so this study will further analyze the effect of vitamin D supplementation on blood lipids in patients with polycystic ovary syndrome.

Methods: PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Library, CNKI, and Wanfang databases were searched up to May 2020, to identify randomized controlled trials of the effect of vitamin D supplementation on blood lipids in patients with polycystic ovary syndrome. The Cochrane risk of bias tool was applied to assess the risk of bias, and RevMan5.

Keratinases are promising alternatives over ordinary proteases in several industrial applications due to their unique properties compared with their counterparts in the protease categories. However, their large-scale industrial application is limited by the low expression and poor fermentation efficiency of keratinase. Here, we demonstrate that the expression level of keratinase can be improved by constructing a more efficient enzyme expression system hereby enables the highest production titer as regarding recombinant keratinase production to date.

A keratinase gene was mined from soil metagenomes. The open reading frame consisted of 1149 bp and potentially encoded a protein of 382 amino acid residues. It shared the same active site with several reported typical keratinases via analysis of the amino acid sequence.

A novel keratinase was mined and expressed in Escherichia coli BL21 (DE3) via function-driven screening with fosmid library. The catalytic properties of purified keratinase were investigated in detail following enzyme purification. The recombinant keratinase was purified to homogeneity with an estimated molecular weight of 26kDa using nickel affinity chromatography, of which the optimal reaction pH and temperature were 10.

Total syntheses of the biologically important and structurally unique tetracyclic diterpenes conidiogenone, conidiogenol, and conidiogenone B of the cyclopiane class are reported. The absolute configuration of naturally occurring conidiogenone B was also corrected. The key step of our strategy involved the highly efficient construction of both ring C and the quaternary carbon center shared by rings A and C through a one-step regioselective and diastereoselective cycloenlargement in the form of a semipinacol-type rearrangement.

Background: To investigate the incidence and risk factors of retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) in two Neonatal Intensive Care Units in North and South of China, respectively.

Methods: We studied data concerning 472 infants with gestational age (GA) ≤ 34 weeks or birth weight (BW) ≤ 2000 g who were admitted to the Zhujiang Hospital of Southern Medical University and the Fourth Hospital of Shijiazhuang between January 1, 2011 and December 31, 2011. Clinical information about perinatal neonates was collected and was confirmed by reviewing medical charts.

Background: Depression is a frequent mood disorder that affects around a third of stroke patients and has been associated with poorer outcomes. Our aim was to determine whether there was a relationship between inflammatory markers (leptin) and post-stroke depression (PSD).

Methods: One hundred and ninety-one ischemic stroke patients admitted to the hospital within the first 24 hours after stroke onset were consecutively recruited and followed up for 3 months.

Based on the characteristics of polycations of chitosan and glucoamylase, which are oppositely charged, they were successfully alternatingly deposited onto the surface of aldehyde-modified Fe3O4 nanoparticles by using a layer-by-layer ion exchange method to form magnetic carriers to construct multilayer films (designated as Fe3O4@(CS/GA)n). The (CS/GA)n film systems were endowed with the pH-dependent properties of chitosan as well as the catalytic activity of glucoamylase. The changes in weight loss and surface chemistry, morphology, and magnetic sensitivity were monitored and verified by UV/Vis spectroscopy, zeta potential, TEM, and a vibrating sample magnetometer.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to analyze how stress is distributed in bone around dental implants under lateral immediate loading at various angles using a three-dimensional finite element model.
  • A 3D mesh model of an edentulous mandible was created from CT scans, and different angles of lateral load were tested to observe the resulting Von Mises stress on the bone.
  • Results indicated that vertical loads distribute stress evenly, whereas lateral loads significantly increase stress concentration, especially at the cortical bone cervix of the implant, with stress values being up to four times higher compared to vertical loading.
