IRON MAN (IMA) peptides, a family of small peptides, control iron (Fe) transport in plants, but their roles in Fe signaling remain unclear. BRUTUS (BTS) is a potential Fe sensor that negatively regulates Fe homeostasis by promoting the ubiquitin-mediated degradation of bHLH105 and bHLH115, two positive regulators of the Fe deficiency response. Here, we show that IMA peptides interact with BTS.

Adjuvant chemotherapy with S-1 plus oxaliplatin improves survival of patients with gastric cancer after D2 gastrectomy: A multicenter propensity score-matched study.

Aim: To investigate the safety and efficacy of S-1 plus oxaliplatin (SOX) as an adjuvant chemotherapy regimen in gastric cancer (GC) after D2 dissection.

Methods: GC Patients who underwent D2 gastrectomy from September 2009 to December 2011 in four Chinese institutions were enrolled. Patients with stage IB-IIIC GC, who received adjuvant SOX treatment were matched by propensity scores with those who underwent surgery alone and those who conducted capecitabine plus oxaliplatin (XELOX) regimen.

Association of HER2 status with prognosis in gastric cancer patients undergoing R0 resection: A large-scale multicenter study in China.

Aim: To determine whether the positive status of human epidermal growth receptor 2 (HER2) can be regarded as an effective prognostic factor for patients with gastric cancer (GC) undergoing R0 resection.

Methods: A total of 1562 GC patients treated by R0 resection were recruited. HER2 status was evaluated in surgically resected samples of all the patients using immunohistochemical (IHC) staining.

Analysis of mitochondrial DNA in Tibetan gastric cancer patients at high altitude.

The highest risk areas of gastric cancer are currently Japan, Korea and China; Qinghai, a high-altitude area, has one of the highest gastric cancer rates in China. The incidence of gastric cancer is higher in the Tibetan ethnic group compared to that in the Han ethnic group in Qinghai. This study was conducted to determine the clinical characteristics of mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) mutations and copy numbers among Tibetans with gastric cancer residing at high altitudes and investigate the association between adaptations to hypoxic conditions and oncogenesis.

[Relation of polymorphisms of the XPD and GSTM1 genes with susceptibility to hepatocellular carcinoma in Qinghai Tibetans].

Objective: To explore the relationship of polymorphisms in the xeroderma pigmentosum group D (XPD) gene and the glutathione-S transferees M1 (GSTM1) gene with susceptibility to primary hepatic carcinoma (PHC) in Tibetans from the Qinghai region.

Methods: This case-control study compared equal groups (n=102 each) of patients with PHC and healthy individuals recruited from Qinghai, Tibet.PCR and denaturing high-performance liquid chromatography (DHPLC) was used to detect each participant's genotypes for the XPD and GSTM1 genes.

Clinical epidemiology of gastric cancer in Hehuang valley of China: a 10-year epidemiological study of gastric cancer.

Aim: To investigate the clinical epidemiological characteristics of gastric cancer in the Hehuang valley, China, to provide a reference for treatment and prevention of regional gastric cancer.

Methods: Between February 2003 and February 2013, the records of 2419 patients with gastric cancer were included in this study. The patient's characteristics, histological and pathological features, as well as the dietary habits of the patients, were investigated.

In this study, the whole mtDNA genome of Simao Chinese indigenous dog was amplified and sequenced. Our data showed that the whole mtDNA genome of Simao Chinese indigenous dog includes 16,730 base pairs (bps). The Simao Chinese indigenous dog mitochondrial genome included structural organization and base composition of the rRNAs, tRNAs and protein-coding genes, as well as characteristics of tRNAs.

Isolated ring-little finger metacarpal synostosis: a new classification system and treatment strategy.

Purpose: To devise a comprehensive classification system for isolated ring-little finger metacarpal synostosis that offers a clear guide to specific treatment for each variation of the deformity.

Methods: Based on the experience of 13 cases (20 hands) of isolated ring-little finger metacarpal synostosis, we devised a classification system that takes into account 2 key pathological features of this malformation: the fourth-fifth intermetacarpal angle and the severity of hypoplasia of the fifth ray. In our classification, all patients were divided into 3 types, according to the fourth-fifth intermetacarpal angle, and each type was further subdivided into 2 subtypes according to the length of the fifth ray.

Associations between interleukin-1 polymorphisms and gastric cancers among three ethnicities.

Aim: To investigate the associations between interleukin (IL)-1B and IL-1RN polymorphisms and gastric cancers among the Tibet, Hui and Han ethnicities.

Methods: Genomic DNA was extracted from peripheral blood of 210, 205, and 202 healthy volunteers and from 155, 158, and 197 gastric cancer patients from the Tibet, Hui, and Han populations, respectively. Polymorphisms in IL-1B and IL-1RN were analyzed by denaturing high-performance liquid chromatography.

[Diagnosis and surgical treatment of giant cell tumor in hand bone].

[Repair of postburn hand using scarred skin and an abdominal flap in patients with severe burns].

Detection of the intrinsic size of Sagittarius A* through closure amplitude imaging.

We have detected the intrinsic size of Sagittarius A*, the Galactic center radio source associated with a supermassive black hole, showing that the short-wavelength radio emission arises from very near the event horizon of the black hole. Radio observations with the Very Long Baseline Array show that the source has a size of 24 +/- 2 Schwarzschild radii at 7-millimeter wavelength. In one of eight 7-millimeter epochs, we also detected an increase in the intrinsic size of 60(-17)(+25)%.
