Objective: To develop and validate a machine learning (ML) model predicting venous thromboembolism (VTE) risk in ICU patients with traumatic brain injury (TBI).
Methods: Utilizing data from 1,564 TBI patients in MIMIC-IV (2008-2021), models were trained (80%) and tested (20%). We used 304 TBI patients from the 904th Hospital of the Joint Support Force of the Chinese People's Liberation Army's ICU (2021-2024) as an external validation cohort.
In China, older migrant workers represent an especially vulnerable group, facing challenges to their quality of life as they grow older and move away from their hometowns. This study aimed to investigate the relationship between social integration, subjective well-being, and subjective fairness over a four-year period in a cohort of 1,394 older Chinese migrant workers aged 50 and older. Latent growth modeling showed a significant positive change over time in all three psychosocial constructs.

Research Background: Traditionally seen as an environmental bacterium, Acinetobacter parvus has rarely been studied in clinical settings. Its role in human infections remains unclear, particularly in vulnerable populations. This study explores its biological traits, antibiotic resistance, and genomic features through the first systematic analysis of strain ZDL0830, isolated from an immunocompromised patient with an abscess.

The theory of interlimb neural coupling suggests that arm swing should be integrated into gait training to promote neural control of walking. We previously developed a mobile gait trainer which followed the user during free overground walking. However, it did not provide assistance in the synchronised arm and leg movements.

To promote whole-body rehabilitation in the early post-injury phase, a system is desirable to provide user transfer, automatic posture change and therapy for various arm-leg movements. This work aimed to present a cable-driven robotic platform that can provide whole-body rehabilitation for the user in a lying position and to demonstrate preliminary results for generation of 3D leg movements. Seventeen compact cable-driven actuators (CDAs) were designed and mounted on a robotic frame.

With the aging of the population, the prevalence of calcific aortic valve disease (CAVD) has increased yearly. However, effective means to delay or even reverse the progression of CAVD are still lacking. This study revealed that prostate androgen-regulated mucin-like protein 1 (PARM1) expression was significantly up-regulated in calcified aortic valve tissues.

This study aims to elucidate the mediating role of family functioning and explore generational differences in this relationship.
Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted among two groups of migrant workers in China: first-generation migrant workers (FGWs) and new-generation migrant workers (NGMWs).

The geo-inequality of COVID-19 risk has attracted a great deal of research attention. In this study, the spatial correlation between community environment and the incidence of COVID-19 cases in 30 Chinese cities is discussed. The spread of the disease is analyzed based on timing and spatial monitoring at the km2-grid level, with the use of publicly available data relating to housing prices, Gross Deomestic Product (GDP), medical facilities, consumer sites, public green spaces, and industrial sites.

Understanding the levels of selfish tendency and preemptively detecting possible manifestations of selfish intents among medical students is essential for developing educational strategies that foster ethical and responsible conduct within the medical profession. This study aimed to develop and validate the Medical Students' Self-Reported Selfishness Questionnaire (MSSSQ), specifically designed to assess selfish tendencies amongst medical students.

Background: Melioidosis is a tropical infectious disease caused by , characterised by a high case fatality rate.
Objectives: We summarized the cases of melioidosis at Sanya People's Hospital in Hainan over the past eleven years. This information served as a reference for the epidemiological study, diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of melioidosis in China.

Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a systemic autoimmune disease that commonly causes pain in joints and the progressive destruction of cartilage and bone, which significantly reduces the quality of life and increases the social burden. However, there is still no cure for RA, so it is highly important to explore additional adjuvant treatment methods. Studies have indicated that malnutrition, changes in intestinal microbiota, and changes in immune status caused by dietary imbalance are directly related to the onset of RA, indicating that dietary intervention may offer a simple, economical, and practical avenue to relieve RA.

Therefore, it is crucial to promptly and accurately identify the causative microorganisms for pathogen diagnosis and clinical decision-making. The objective of this study is to evaluate the clinical applicability of metagenomic next-generation sequencing (mNGS) in the diagnosis and management of LRTI, as well as its impact on empirical antibacterial therapy for patients with varying immune statuses.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFTransient receptor potential vanilloid 4 (TRPV4) is a Ca-permeable channel activated by diverse physical and chemical stimuli, including mechanical stress and endogenous lipid arachidonic acid (AA) and its metabolites. Phosphorylation of TRPV4 by protein kinase A (PKA) and protein kinase C (PKC) is a predominant mechanism for channel regulation, especially in the cytoplasmic domains due to their importance in protein assembly, and channelopathies. However, studies corresponding to phosphorylation sites for these kinases remain incomplete.

The recent increase in the number of frail older adults has led to increased attention being paid to psychological care services in communities. The social isolation of pre-frail older adults can impact their psychological distress.

Traditional computational methods for detecting mA from Nanopore direct RNA sequencing (DRS) data are constrained by their reliance on experimentally validated labels, often resulting in the underestimation of modification sites. Here, we introduce pum6a, an innovative attention-based framework that integrates positive and unlabeled multi-instance learning (MIL) to address the challenges of incomplete labeling and missing read-level annotations.

Organ fibrosis is gradually becoming a human health and safety problem, and various organs of the body are likely to develop fibrosis. The ultimate pathological feature of numerous chronic diseases is fibrosis, and few interventions are currently available to specifically target the pathogenesis of fibrosis. The medical detection of organ fibrosis has gradually matured.

However, there is a lack of empirical research exploring the correlation between subjective social status (SSS) and depressive symptoms among MWs. The objective of this study is to examine the mediating roles of job fairness and job burnout, as well as to investigate potential generational differences in this association.

Methods: Clinical and RNA-seq information were collected from The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) and Genome Data Sharing (GDC) portal. The Pearson correlation analysis, univariate COX regression analysis, the least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO) COX regression were employed to construct the disulfidptosis-related lncRNAs (DRLs) prognostic model.

Methods: This was a randomized controlled trial of pre-frail older adults aged from 60 years to 85 years.
Aniba rosaeodora essential oil (RO) has been traditionally used in natural medicine as a substitute for antibiotics due to its notable antidepressant and antibacterial properties. Salmonella, a prevalent pathogen in foodborne illnesses, presents a major challenge to current antibiotic treatments. However, the antibacterial efficacy and mechanisms of action of RO against Salmonella spp.
