Al/diamond composites are considered a new generation of potential thermal management materials. In this study, the uniform B coating on the surface of diamond particles was prepared by the vacuum thermal diffusion method. Subsequently, Al matrix composites reinforced with B-coated diamond particles were produced by the gas pressure infiltration method.

To provide insight into the interface structure in Ti particle-reinforced Mg matrix composites, this study investigates the inherent Mg/Ti interface structure formed during the solidification of supercooled Mg melt on a (0001)Ti substrate using ab initio molecular dynamics (AIMD) simulations and density function theory (DFT) calculation. The resulting interface exhibits an orientation relationship of 0001Mg//0001Ti with a lattice mismatch of approximately 8%. Detailed characterizations reveal the occurrences of 0001Mg plane rotation and vacancy formation to overcome the lattice mismatch at the inherent Mg/Ti interface while allowing Mg atoms to occupy the energetically favorable hollow sites above the Ti atomic layer.

The formation criteria of the LPSO phase are important for the design of long-period stacking-ordered (LPSO) Mg alloys. This work focuses on Type I LPSO Mg-Y-X alloys and attempts to explore the formation criteria of the LPSO phase from the perspective of liquid-solid correlation. With the aid of molecular dynamics simulation, liquid Mg-Y-X alloys are investigated to obtain the common liquid characteristics from the reported Type I LPSO Mg-Y-X alloys.

The plate-like iron-rich intermetallic phases in recycled aluminum alloys significantly deteriorate the mechanical properties. In this paper, the effects of mechanical vibration on the microstructure and properties of the Al-7Si-3Fe alloy were systematically investigated. Simultaneously, the modification mechanism of the iron-rich phase was also discussed.

The involvement of magnesium matrix composite enhanced by metal particles, the development of low lattice mismatch interface, and the refining of particle size are all of great significance in improving strengthening efficiency. In this work, nano-crystalline Ti/Mg-9Al-Zn-0.3Mn composites were prepared by mechanical milling.

An understanding of the accurate phase diagram, especially the equilibrium phase relation around the ε phase, is thus of particular importance. However, the phase interrelation near the -Mg(Al, Zn) phase has not yet been fully studied.

However, the alloying order of a matrix magnesium alloy is completely changed with the addition of RE elements. Therefore, further study of the strengthening mechanism of Ce element in magnesium alloys is required.

The development of a magnesium matrix composite with a high content of dispersions using conventional liquid-phase process is a great challenge, especially for nanometer/submicron particles. In this work, mechanical milling was employed to prepare nanocrystalline AZ91 dispersed with 15 vol.% submicron SiC particles (SiCp/AZ91).

The underlying science of thermal transport behavior is not well established both experimentally and theoretically. In the present work, we have studied the microscopic picture of lattice thermal conductivity of ZnXP (X = Si, Ge, Sn), chalcopyrite ABC type infrared optical crystals, by using a harmonic and anharmonic lattice dynamic method and phonon Boltzmann transport equation based on first-principle calculations.

Therefore, overall surface treatment is necessary for the protection of dissimilar metal welded parts. However, serious unbalanced reactions may occur during overall surface treatment, which makes it difficult to prepare integral coating.

The framework consisted of a highly porous iron oxide core, a gelatin-based hydrogel intermediary layer and a matrigel outer cover, which conferred a multitude of desirable properties including excellent biocompatibility, improved mechanical strength and controlled biodegradability. The large pore sizes and high extent of pore interconnectivity of the framework stimulated robust neovascularization and resulted in substantially better cell viability and proliferation as a result of improved transport efficiency for oxygen and nutrients.
