In recent years, the relationship between stress hyperglycemia ratio (SHR) and clinical outcomes in critically ill patients has garnered increasing attention. However, its role in predicting the prognosis of patients with sepsis-associated acute kidney injury (SA-AKI) remains unclear. This study aimed to clarify the relationship between SHR and all-cause mortality in patients with SA-AKI.

Background & Objective: Atopic dermatitis (AD), a chronic inflammatory skin condition, is primarily characterized by persistent itching and significant sleep disruption. Dipotassium glycyrrhizin, known for its anti-inflammatory properties, has shown potential in AD treatment. This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of emollients containing dipotassium glycyrrhiza extract and the impact of varying application methods on improving the clinical severity of atopic dermatitis in adults during remission periods.

Metabolic syndrome (MetS) is a clinical syndrome associated with cardiovascular disease, diabetes, obesity, and dyslipidemia. Its primary features include dyslipidemia, hypertension, abdominal obesity, and insulin resistance (IR). Recently, research has revealed that MetS is not only a manifestation of internal metabolic disturbances but is also closely associated with various dermatological conditions, including inflammatory skin diseases, autoimmune skin diseases, and skin tumors.

Background: Herpes zoster severely impacts patients' quality of life and therapeutic results. This research utilized data from the FDA Adverse Event Reporting System (FAERS) to examine the prevalence and attributes of drug-induced herpes zoster.

Methods: We analyzed FAERS reports about zoster from Q1 2004 to Q3 2024 and developed a list of possible pathogenic agents.

Introduction: Immunotherapy targeting PD-1/PD-L1 shows significant benefits in lung cancer. Cutaneous immune-related adverse events (irAEs) are frequent, early-developing side effects of ICIs, and their potential role as prognostic markers in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) therapy requires further exploration.

Methods: Data of patients with NSCLC treated with camrelizumab Combined with chemotherapy were collected at Xuzhou Medical University from 2019 to 2023.

Article Synopsis
  • Odontogenic cutaneous fistulas (OCST) are abnormal connections between the skin of the face and the mouth caused by chronic dental infections, often going unnoticed by dermatologists.
  • A study of 60 patients showed that OCST is more common in men, with most cases occurring in the lower jaw (mandible) rather than the upper jaw (maxilla), and nodules being the most common appearance.
  • Effective dental treatment led to positive outcomes for all patients, highlighting the need for better teamwork between dentists and dermatologists for accurate diagnosis and management.

Purpose: To compare corneal higher-order aberrations (HOAs), refractive error, and ocular biological parameters before and after phacoemulsification combined with goniosynechialysis (Phaco-GSL) in primary angle closure/glaucoma (PAC/PACG) patients with different axial lengths (ALs).

Methods: In this prospective study, cataract patients diagnosed with PAC/PACG were categorized into two groups based on their ALs: the short AL group (AL ≤ 22.5 mm) and the normal AL group (22.

Background: Although biologics improve the quality of life of psoriasis patients, they also impose a substantial economic burden. There is a lack of research addressing the economic and humanistic impact of biologics in China.

Objective: This cross-sectional investigation aims to assess the economic cost, quality of life, and patient satisfaction among individuals with psoriasis treated with biologics and non-biologics.

Background: Photodynamic therapy (PDT) for actinic keratosis (AK) is limited by the depth of treatment. Microneedling or fractional CO laser can facilitate the penetration of photosensitizer, while cryotherapy can treat deeper tissues but is not suitable for field cancerization.

Objective: To investigate the efficacy of microneedling, fractional CO laser, and cryotherapy in combination with PDT for AK.

After cataract surgery, to prevent possible postoperative endophthalmitis (POE) caused by attached pathogenic bacteria onto the surface of implanted intraocular lens (IOL), various antibiotic-loaded IOLs have been proposed and widely studied to inhibit bacterial infection. However, most of these developed antibiotic-loaded IOLs still suffer from shortcomings such as insufficient drug loading, short release time, poor biocompatibility, and risk of secondary infection. Herein, we propose a zwitterionic and high-drug loading coating for surface modification of commercial hydrophobic IOL with both antifouling and antibacterial properties to effectively prevent POE.

Background: In this case report, we have described congenital inherited endothelial dystrophy (CHED) caused by two heterozygous missense mutations in two patients.

Methods: A Chinese family affected by CHED was recruited to identify potential genetic mutations. The proband developed bilateral corneal opacity after birth, and was diagnosed with CHED based on the clinical manifestations.

The introduction of various drugs onto commercial soft contact lenses (CLs) has emerged as a potentially effective strategy for treating microbial keratitis (MK) because drug-loaded CLs can maintain a controlled drug concentration which leaded to enhanced drug bioavailability and reduced side effects in ocular tissues. In this study, silver nanoparticles modified with zwitterionic poly (carboxybetaine-co-dopamine methacrylamide) copolymer (PCBDA@AgNPs) as novel anti-infective therapeutics were prepared and firmly immobilized onto soft CLs through mussel-inspired surface chemistry. The obtained PCBDA@AgNPs coated CL (PCBDA@AgNPs-CL) remained the excellent transparency of commercial CLs and exhibited strong and broad-spectrum antimicrobial activities.

Article Synopsis
  • Verruciform xanthoma is a rare, benign skin and mucosal lesion typically found in the oral cavity but can also occur in other areas, as illustrated by a case of a 39-year-old woman with vulvar and limb lesions.
  • The patient presented with cauliflower-like tumors in the vulva and yellow, verrucous growths on her extremities, leading to a diagnosis of both verruciform xanthoma and generalized verrucous nevus.
  • Treatment involved surgical removal of the vulvar and peripheral lesions, along with oral Acitretin for the extremity lesions; a follow-up after three months showed improvement in the skin condition.
