Background: In this study, we aimed to investigate postoperative radiographic parameters for predicting flexor tendon rupture after volar plate fixation for distal radius fractures.

Methods: In this retrospective cohort study, postoperative radiographs of 15 cases of flexor tendon rupture were included as a flexor tendon rupture group. Additionally, data from 45 patients with non-flexor tendon rupture (control group), matched in terms of age, sex, and fracture type (1 : 3) to the flexor tendon rupture group, were reviewed in terms of fracture reduction and plate position.

In pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH), a phenotypic switch in pulmonary arterial smooth muscle cells (PASMCs) that is primarily caused by aberrant gene regulatory networks can lead to dysregulated vascular remodelling, heart failure or death. No curative therapies for PAH are currently available, presumably because of a lack of viral vectors specifically targeting PASMCs. Here we show that a highly mobile and PASMC-tropic adeno-associated virus variant developed via directed evolution overcomes physical barriers that inhibit its transfer from bronchial airways to vascular layers, ultimately boosting therapeutic efficacy in murine models of PAH.

Blast phase chronic myeloid leukemia (BP-CML) poses significant clinical challenges due to its drug resistance, resulting from BCR::ABL1-dependent mutations and BCR::ABL1-independent pathways. Previously, we reported that FLT3 pathway is activated in ~ 50% of BP-CML cases, indicating a potential avenue for therapeutic intervention via dual inhibition of BCR::ABL1 and FLT3. Here, we aimed to evaluate the efficacy of KF1601, a dual inhibitor of BCR::ABL1 and FLT3, in overcoming drug resistance in BP-CML while also comparing its thrombo-inflammatory responses with those of ponatinib, known to have severe cardiovascular adverse events in human.

Until now, Hippo pathway-mediated nucleocytoplasmic translocation has been considered the primary mechanism by which yes-associated protein (YAP) and transcriptional co-activator with PDZ-binding motif (TAZ) transcriptional coactivators regulate cell proliferation and differentiation via transcriptional enhanced associate domain (TEAD)-mediated target gene expression. In this study, however, we found that TAZ, but not YAP, is associated with the Golgi apparatus in macrophages activated via Toll-like receptor ligands during the resolution phase of inflammation. Golgi-associated TAZ enhanced vesicle trafficking and secretion of proinflammatory cytokines in M1 macrophage independent of the Hippo pathway.

We compared the communication and socialization scores using the Korean Version of the Vineland Adaptive Behavior Scale, second edition (K-VABS II); social interaction, communication, and language using the autism diagnostic interview-revised (ADI-R); and the total score of the Korean-Childhood Autism Rating Scale 2 (K-CARS 2) according to the presence or absence of siblings, the number of siblings, the order of birth and the sex of sibling.

Although coronary artery occlusion can have a negative effect on the myocardium, chronic total occlusion (CTO) exhibits different clinical features from those of acute myocardial infarction (AMI). In this study, we identify the differential associations of exosomal miRNAs with CTO and AMI. Exosomes were isolated from the plasma obtained from coronary arteries of patients undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention to treat CTO (n = 29) and AMI (n = 24), followed by small RNA sequencing, target gene predictions, and functional enrichment analyses.

The process of cancer metastasis is dependent on the cancer cells' capacity to detach from the primary tumor, endure in a suspended state, and establish colonies in other locations. Anchorage dependence, which refers to the cells' reliance on attachment to the extracellular matrix (ECM), is a critical determinant of cellular shape, dynamics, behavior, and, ultimately, cell fate in nonmalignant and cancer cells. Anchorage-independent growth is a characteristic feature of cells resistant to anoikis, a programmed cell death process triggered by detachment from the ECM.

Tumor necrosis factor-related apoptosis-inducing ligand (TRAIL) has chemotherapeutic potential as a regulator of an extrinsic apoptotic ligand, but its effect as a drug is limited by innate and acquired resistance. Recent findings suggest that an intermediate drug tolerance could mediate acquired resistance, which has made the main obstacle for limited utility of TRAIL as an anti-cancer therapeutics. Proprotein convertase subtilisin/kexin type-9 (PCSK9) binds to and degrades low-density lipoprotein (LDL) receptor, leading to increase of LDL cholesterol in blood. Its blockers have emerged as promising therapeutics for cardiovascular diseases.
