Article Abstract

This study analyzed the optical and laser spot acquisition capabilities of a newly developed dual-wavelength-band camera. The camera performance was evaluated using a 3.0 m × 1.8 m Styrofoam target and a 70-mJ laser target designator; mid-infrared images were acquired based on the target distance, and a laser beam was irradiated onto the target to detect laser spots. The dual-wavelength-band camera demonstrated target recognition and spot detection ranges of 3 and 2 km, respectively. The results demonstrated that laser spot images could be obtained with a laser reception power of 65 μW or higher.

Purpose: To compare the efficacy of intraoral (IOPBM) and extraoral photobiomodulation (EOPBM) protocols for the prevention and treatment of oral mucositis (OM) in patients with oral or oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) to submitted radiotherapy (RT).

Methods: This randomized, blinded, multicenter clinical trial enrolled 58 patients with oral or oropharyngeal SCC, who were allocated into two groups matched by treatment type, clinical stage, and RT modality. Group I (IOPBM) received intraoral photobiomodulation (PBM) with a continuous InGaAlP diode laser (660 nm, 100 mW, 0.

Imaging Transzonal Projections in the Cumulus-Oocyte Complexes: challenges and solutions†.

Deep 3D imaging of oocytes shows several difficulties. Their large size, spherical shape causes depth-dependent artefactual shadow in the middle, resulting from refractive index mismatches induced by turbid organelles and lipid droplets. These mismatches lead to optical aberrations, increasing the laser spot size at the confocal pinhole plan and causing significant attenuation of fluorescence intensity making difficult to clearly image fine structures such as the transzonal projections (TZPs) connecting cumulus cells and the oocyte.

Background: Considering that a single passive application of hydrochloric acid (HCl) as a resin infiltration pretreatment can remove between 20 and 45 µm of enamel and cause etching that extends up to 2 mm beyond the white spot lesions (WSLs), it is plausible that its repeated and active applications could result in a greater amount of dental tissue being removed.

Objective: To evaluate the enamel surface loss and micromorphology after etching with 15% HCl using two application methods (passive-P and active-A) and varying numbers of applications (C-placebo - 120 s; 1x HCl - 120 s; 2x HCl - 120 s + 120 s; 3x HCl - 120 s + 120 s + 120 s).

Methodology: Bovine incisors with ≤0.

This study investigated the efficacy and safety of Nd: YAG laser (1064 nm) hair removal in 55 Sudanese women with Fitzpatrick skin types IV, V, and VI. The primary objective was to evaluate the influence of skin type, fluence, age, and geographic location on the number of treatments required to achieve satisfactory hair reduction in the chin area. Treatment parameters, including fluence (25-40 J/cm²), spot size (10-12 mm), and pulse width (20-40 ms), were tailored to individual characteristics using the Cynosure Elite + Nd: YAG laser with sapphire contact cooling.
