Background: Light therapy (LT) in Parkinson's disease improves sleep. Specific LT parameters require further study, including optimal frequency.
Objectives: We aimed to determine if once- or twice-daily bright white light therapy (BWLT) improves sleep.

Objectives: The differential diagnosis of functional and other etiologies of dystonia can be difficult. We performed a clinical neurophysiological study in a female patient with cranial-cervical dystonia, providing strong evidence for the diagnosis of functional dystonia.
Methods: The patient had torticollis and intermittent facial pulling with downward deviation of the left angle of the mouth.
Introduction: Type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM) is a known risk factor for sarcopenia. Apolipoprotein J (ApoJ) and myostatin (MSTN) have been implicated in muscle glucose metabolism. We aimed to examine the association between serum ApoJ and MSTN levels and sarcopenia in older adults, with and without DM.

This case demonstrates that a high index of suspicion combined with point-of-care ultrasonography is vital for the rapid diagnosis and management of this condition.

This study aimed to investigate the association between stereopsis and cognitive function in community-dwelling older adults.
Methods: A cross-sectional analysis was conducted with data of 1,228 participants aged 74-88 years from the Korean Frailty and Aging Cohort Study.
Background: Primary spontaneous pneumothorax (PSP) is commonly treated with video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS), which traditionally requires one-lung ventilation (OLV) with double-lumen endotracheal intubation to optimize the surgical field. However, OLV may be associated with complications such as airway trauma and postoperative sore throat. In contrast, two-lung ventilation (TLV) with CO insufflation has been proposed as an alternative that may reduce airway-related complications while maintaining adequate visualization.

This cross-sectional study included 419 female breast cancer survivors aged 30 to 78 years. Dietary intake was assessed using 3-day dietary records (DRs) or food frequency questionnaires (FFQs).

Substantial evidence has shown that hepatic steatosis may be linked with cognitive impairment and dementia. This study aimed to clarify the association between MAFLD and brain structural and cognitive changes.

South Korea lacked a systematic approach to assigning alcohol use disorder patients to suitable treatment. To address this, Park et al.

Linear staplers, widely used for pulmonary or bowel resection, consist of three rows of fasteners on both sides of a resection line. Although multiple rows of fasteners ensure stump and specimen closure, specimen could compromise accurate pathological evaluation of the true surgical margin.

We conducted longitudinal analyses to investigate the association between intrinsic capacity (IC) and frailty transitions among community-dwelling older adults in Korea.

Background: Dietary factors play a role in the etiology of gastrointestinal cancer. We aimed to estimate the burden of gastric and colorectal cancer that can be attributable to dietary factors in adults aged 20 years and older in Korea in 2018.
Methods: Dietary intakes in 2000 were estimated using data from the 2001, 2005, and 2007-2018 Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (KNHANES).
Background: The internal mammary artery (IMA) is the most commonly used graft in coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) because of its superior long-term patency rate. However, its small diameter poses challenges in handling, and any vascular damage that may occur during harvesting can significantly affect surgical outcomes. The primary focus during IMA harvesting is to ensure safe and effective hemostasis without direct vascular injury, while ensuring secure and reliable ligation of the vascular branches.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFFree-living amoebae (FLA) are found in diverse environments, such as soils, rivers, and seas. Hence, they can be used as bioindicators to assess the water quality based solely on their presence. In this study, we determined the presence of FLA in river water by filtering water samples collected from various sites and culturing the resulting filtrates.

Using the Korean Organ Transplantation Registry (KOTRY), a nationwide multicenter database, we investigated the prevalence and clinical impact of calculated panel-reactive antibody (cPRA) in patients undergoing HTx.
Methods: We retrospectively reviewed 813 patients who underwent HTx between 2014 and 2021.

Objectives: To analyze the sizes of the stapedius and tensor tympani (TT) muscles using a temporal bone CT (TBCT) scan in patients with middle ear myoclonic tinnitus (MEMT) and investigate their value for the diagnosis of this rare cause of tinnitus.
Methods: Medical records and TBCT of patients with MEMT or vascular tinnitus (VT) at Seoul St. Mary's Hospital from January 2012 to December 2022 were reviewed.
Various strategies at the microscale/nanoscale have been developed to improve oral absorption of therapeutics. Among them, gastrointestinal (GI)-transporter/receptor-mediated nanosized drug delivery systems (NDDSs) have drawn attention due to their many benefits, such as improved water solubility, improved chemical/physical stability, improved oral absorption, and improved targetability of their payloads. Their therapeutic potential in disease animal models (, solid tumors, virus-infected lungs, metastasis, diabetes, and so on) has been investigated, and could be expanded to disease targeting after systemic/lymphatic circulation, although the detailed paths and mechanisms of endocytosis, endosomal escape, intracellular trafficking, and exocytosis through the epithelial cell lining in the GI tract are still unclear.

CCCTC-binding factor (CTCF), a DNA binding protein, exhibits specific binding patterns in the genome of cancer cells and has a non-canonical function to facilitate oncogenic transcription programs by cooperating with transcription factors bound at flanking distal regions. Identification of DNA sequence features from a broad genomic region that distinguish cancer-specific CTCF binding sites from regular CTCF binding sites can help find oncogenic transcription factors in a cancer type.

Various factors such as acidosis, hyperkalemia, metabolic toxins, digoxin toxicity, and BRASH syndrome (comprising bradycardia, renal failure, atrioventricular (AV) nodal blockade, shock, and hyperkalemia) should be considered when dealing with a symptomatic unstable patient in a hospital. In this case, we present an example where metabolic toxins, specifically uremia, in combination with other factors, lead the patient to enter a ventricular escape rhythm, ultimately resulting in cardiogenic shock.
