Enhanced formation of methane hydrate from active ice with high gas uptake.

Gas hydrates provide alternative solutions for gas storage & transportation and gas separation. However, slow formation rate of clathrate hydrate has hindered their commercial development. Here we report a form of porous ice containing an unfrozen solution layer of sodium dodecyl sulfate, here named active ice, which can significantly accelerate gas hydrate formation while generating little heat.

The severity of NEC is ameliorated by prostaglandin E2 through regulating intestinal microcirculation.

Prostaglandin E2 (PGE2) is implicated in intestinal inflammation and intestinal blood flow regulation with a paradoxical effect on the pathogenesis of necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC), which is not yet well understood. In the current study, we found that PGE2, EP4, and COX-2 varied at different distances from the most damaged area in the terminal ileum obtained from human infants with NEC. PGE2 administration alleviated the phenotype of experimental NEC and the intestinal microvascular features in experimental NEC, but this phenomenon was inhibited by eNOS depletion, suggesting that PGE2 promoted intestinal microcirculatory perfusion through eNOS.

Advantages of ligating the rectum with gauze pad band in laparoscopic anterior resection of rectal cancer: a propensity score matched analysis.

Purpose: It is difficult to maintain sufficient tension throughout laparoscopic anterior resection with total mesorectal excision, which causes a decline in surgical quality. We used a soft, inexpensive gauze pad band pulling the rectal tube to analyze the effect of surgery.

Methods: A gauze pad band was positioned at the proximal of the tumor, followed by fastening the rectal tube and ligating the rectum.

Exploring the Driving Factors of Remote Sensing Ecological Index Changes from the Perspective of Geospatial Differentiation: A Case Study of the Weihe River Basin, China.

Using the Google Earth Engine (GEE) platform, Moderate-resolution image spectroradiometer (MODIS) data of the Weihe River Basin from 2001 to 2021 were acquired, four ecological indicators, namely, greenness, wetness, heat, and dryness, were extracted, and the remote sensing ecological index (RSEI) was constructed through principal component analysis. In addition, the geographic detectors and a multi-scale geographic weighted regression model (MGWR) were used to identify the main driving factors of RSEI changes and capture the differences in spatial changes from different perspectives using multiple indicators. The results show that (1) the quality of the eco-environment in the Weihe River basin improved as a whole from 2001 to 2021, and the RSEI increased from 0.

CBLC inhibits the proliferation and metastasis of breast cancer cells via ubiquitination and degradation of CTTN.

The E3 ubiquitin ligase is an important regulator of cell signaling and proteostasis and is tightly controlled in many diseases, including cancer. Our study aimed to investigate the biological role of the E3 ubiquitin ligase CBLC in breast cancer and elucidate the specific mechanistic network underlying CBLC-mediated target substrate degradation, cell proliferation and metastasis. Here, we showed that CBLC expression was higher in breast cancer tissues and cells than that in normal tissues and cells.

Efficient separation of butane isomers via ZIF-8 slurry on laboratory- and pilot-scale.

n-butane and isobutane are important petrochemical raw materials. Their separation is challenging because of their similar properties, including boiling point. Here, we report a zeolitic imidazolate framework-8 (ZIF-8)/N,N-Dimethylpropyleneurea (DMPU)-water slurry as sorption material to separate butane mixtures.

Efficacy of Probiotic Consortium Transplantation on Experimental Necrotizing Enterocolitis.

Introduction: Fecal microbiota transplantation (FMT) is a promising therapy, but it has not been used to treat neonatal necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC) due to reports of adverse side effects. Probiotics are considered relatively safe with practicable administrative procedures; however, no systematic research has compared the results of FMT and probiotic consortium transplantation (PCT) on oxidative stress in the intestines of patients with NEC. We conducted this study to provide a basis for optimizing NEC therapy.

Impacts of Motor Developmental Delay on the Inter-Joint Coordination Using Kinematic Synergies of Joint Angles During Infant Crawling.

Motor developmental delay (MDD) usually affects the inter-joint coordination for limb movement. However, the mechanism between the abnormal inter-joint coordination and MDD is still unclear, which poses a challenge for clinical diagnosis and motor rehabilitation of MDD in infant's early life. This study aimed to explore whether the joint activities of limbs during infant crawling are represented with kinematic synergies of joint angles, and evaluate the impacts of MDD on the inter-joint coordination using those synergies.

Background: Totally laparoscopic total gastrectomy for gastric cancer is limited to few expert surgeons, and a reason for this is the technical difficulty of performing esophagojejunostomy laparoscopically. Overlap has acted as a more popular reconstruction method in recent years; however, its clinical outcomes are inconclusive. Thus, this meta-analysis aimed to provide a higher level of evidence to demonstrate the safety and effectiveness of overlap esophagojejunostomy in totally laparoscopic total gastrectomy.

Fungal diversity notes 1512-1610: taxonomic and phylogenetic contributions on genera and species of fungal taxa.

This article is the 14th in the Fungal Diversity Notes series, wherein we report 98 taxa distributed in two phyla, seven classes, 26 orders and 50 families which are described and illustrated. Taxa in this study were collected from Australia, Brazil, Burkina Faso, Chile, China, Cyprus, Egypt, France, French Guiana, India, Indonesia, Italy, Laos, Mexico, Russia, Sri Lanka, Thailand, and Vietnam. There are 59 new taxa, 39 new hosts and new geographical distributions with one new combination.
