Metal exposure could induce oxidative stress, yet the underlying epigenetic mechanisms remain unclear. Herein, we aimed to investigate the DNA methylation signatures associated with oxidative stress biomarkers, including 8-hydroxyguanine (8-OHdG) and 8-iso-prostaglandin-F2α (8-iso-PGF2α), and evaluate their mediating role in metal-induced oxidative stress. A genome-wide DNA methylation association study was conducted in discovery panel (Shiyan, N = 155) with validation in an independent replication panel (Wuhan-Zhuhai, N = 50).

We conducted a cluster-randomized controlled intervention study of using ventilation hood during cooking at five economically underdeveloped villages in southwest China over an 8-month period, where wood remained the dominant cooking fuel. We assessed changes in personal 24-h PM exposure and indicators of cardiometabolic and pulmonary health pre- to post-intervention among 115 intervention and 60 control participants.

Objectives: Assess the relationships of gut microbiota (GMB)-related metabolites in feces and blood with GMB and type 2 diabetes (T2D) in the context of HIV infection, the presence of which could disrupt host metabolism.
Design: We conducted a cross-sectional study among 111 women with HIV (WWH) and 56 women without HIV (WWOH) in the MACS/WIHS Combined Cohort Study.
Methods: We measured 62 targeted metabolites in both feces and plasma and examined their associations with GMB composition (243 species) and prevalent T2D.

Background: Whether exposure to persistent organic pollutants (POPs) may incur microRNAs (miRNAs) dysregulation remains largely unclear.
Objectives: We aim to identify the miRNA signature and related pathways of low-level POPs exposure in a community-based population.
Methods: We used general linear regression to model the association of POPs with plasma miRNAs, adjusting for age, gender, smoking, alcohol consumption, body mass index, triglyceride, and total cholesterol levels.

Background: Rapid kidney function decline (RKFD) is a main clinical feature of early chronic kidney disease (CKD) in type 2 diabetes (T2D). Environmental and genetic factors influencing RKFD remain inadequately elucidated.

Methods: Urinary cadmium levels (UCd) were measured by inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry, serum high-density lipoprotein (HDL), total cholesterol, triglyceride, and low-density lipoprotein were measured with kits, and DNAM was measured using the Infinium MethylationEPIC BeadChip.

Prospective epidemiological evidence was lacking on the association of phthalates (PAEs) exposure with incident type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) risk. In present nested case-control study, we identified 1006 T2DM cases and matched 1006 controls based on Dongfeng-Tongji cohort study, and 6 PAEs were detected in baseline serum. Existing estimations of air pollution from automobile sources are based on either experiments or small-scale governmental interventions. China's nationwide traffic control during the coronavirus disease 2019 outbreak provided us a unique opportunity to assess the direct dose-effect relationship between vehicle density and air pollution. We found that, during the coronavirus disease 2019 outbreak, the nationwide reduced air pollution (except for O) could be largely explained by traffic control measures.
