Inhospital ischemic stroke has more mortality, more disability, and greater severity compared to community-onset stroke. We present a case of a 40-year-old male who reported to the emergency room (ER) with breathlessness and later developed a stroke during the course of his stay in the hospital. We noted multiple comorbidities and risk factors that could have resulted in the stroke.

  • A recent survey conducted among emergency medicine (EM) residents in New York and New Jersey aimed to assess their perceptions of the evolving EM job market as they approach graduation.
  • Out of 436 respondents, 56% planned to start their job search earlier, with a significant number anticipating a challenging job market influenced by the COVID-19 pandemic.
  • The study revealed a growing competitiveness in securing jobs, a decreasing interest in fellowship training as residents advance, and a preference for job opportunities on the East and West Coasts of the U.S.

Myelin oligodendrocyte glycoprotein antibody-associated disease (MOGAD) is a rare autoimmune disorder characterized by recurrent episodes of demyelination affecting the central nervous system. The following case report showcases a thorough analysis of a 21-year-old female patient presenting with MOGAD, outlining her clinical presentation, diagnostic workup, treatment protocol, and long-term management outcomes. Through a multidisciplinary approach, we aim to augment the understanding of this complex neurological entity and steer optimal therapeutic interventions.

Background And Objective: The 21 century has witnessed a surge in global internet usage, particularly in developing nations like India. Internet addiction, also known as pathological internet use (PIU) or internet addiction (IA), has emerged as a mental health concern, especially among university students. This study aimed to investigate the prevalence of IA among MBBS students in a medical college in Delhi, India, and explore the association of IA with sociodemographic and internet usage patterns.

Soft tissue sarcomas (STS) are often described as asymptomatic, rapidly expanding masses, particularly in the extremities or trunk. Undifferentiated pleomorphic sarcoma (UPS), a high-grade variant of STS, ranks as the second most prevalent subtype in the United States. It predominantly affects males between their fifth and seventh decades.

Reinforced concrete (RC) wall-like columns are commonly employed in structures in Saudi Arabia. These columns are preferred by architects owing to their minimum projection in the usable space. However, they often need strengthening due to several reasons, such as the addition of more stories and increasing the live load as a result of changing the usage of the building.

In RC (reinforced concrete) frame structures, wall-like columns are laid within the space occupied by masonry walls to maximize usable space and thus minimize the column projections into the usable area. These columns often require strengthening owing to various reasons, including increasing the number of stories, changes in building usage, and others. The use of a hybrid system comprising NSM (near-surface mounted) steel rebars combined with CFRP (carbon-fiber reinforced polymer) laminates may be considered a sound technique for strengthening such wall-like building columns.

Concrete is classified as a multi-composite material comprising three phases: coarse aggregate, mortar, and interfacial transition zone (ITZ). Fine and coarse aggregates occupy approximately 70-85% by volume, of which coarse aggregate typically constitutes more than two-thirds of the total quantity of aggregate by volume. The current study investigates the concrete performance produced using various recycled construction and by-product industrial waste coarse aggregates.

Background: The COVID-19 pandemic displaced newly matched emergency medicine "pre-interns" from in-person educational experiences at the end of medical school. This called for novel remote teaching modalities.

Objective: This study assesses effectiveness of a multisite Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) sub-competency-based curricular implementation on Slack during the first wave of the COVID-19 pandemic in the United States.

Uterine bleeding that is abnormal in timing, duration, or quantity affects nearly one-third of women and carries a substantial financial and quality-of-life burden. An estimated 5% of ED visits are for vaginal bleeding, and 1% of those patients will have a life-threatening cause that must be identified. Emergency clinicians need to have a comprehensive understanding of the pathophysiology and etiologies of abnormal uterine bleeding to manage and treat these patients.

Objectives: The objective was to bridge the relative educational gap for newly matched emergency medicine preinterns between Match Day and the start of internship by implementing an Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education Milestone (ACGME)-based virtual case curriculum over the social media platform Slack.

Methods: We designed a Milestone-based curriculum of 10 emergency department clinical cases and used Slack to implement it. An instructor was appointed for each participating institution to lead the discussion and encourage collaboration among preinterns.

Introduction In the emergency department, the diagnosis of an Achilles tendon rupture (ATR) is reportedly missed in greater than 20% of cases. A limited number of studies evaluate the use of cadaver models as a potential ultrasound teaching and training modality. We hypothesize that emergency medicine residents can effectively utilize point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) on cadaver models and a focused teaching intervention to assess their ability to detect ATRs.

Background Residency programs seek to incorporate various social media (SoMe) platforms into their educational curricula, yet little is known regarding the potential roadblocks towards implementation. Our objective was to assess the current utilization of SoMe platforms and identify common barriers to implementation by emergency medicine (EM) residency programs. Methods Members of the Council of Emergency Medicine Residency Directors (CORD) Information Technology (IT) Committee developed an anonymous survey distributed to representatives from EM residency programs using the "CORD Community" internet forum.

Introduction: In 2017, all medical students applying for residency in emergency medicine (EM) were required to participate in the Standardized Video Interview (SVI). The SVI is a video-recorded, uni-directional interview consisting of six questions designed to assess interpersonal and communication skills and professionalism. It is unclear whether this simulated interview is an accurate representation of an applicant's competencies that are often evaluated during the in-person interview.
