Background: Transthyretin cardiac amyloidosis (ATTR-CM) is an increasingly recognized cause of heart failure in older adults. Unwanted Couplings Can Induce Amplification in Quantum Memories despite Negligible Apparent Noise.

Theoretical quantum memory design often involves selectively focusing on certain energy levels to mimic an ideal Λ configuration, a common approach that may unintentionally overlook the impact of neighboring levels or undesired couplings. While this simplification may be justified in certain protocols or platforms, it can significantly distort the achievable memory performance. Through numerical semiclassical analysis, we show that the presence of unwanted energy levels and undesired couplings in an absorptive memory based on a nitrogen-vacancy center can significantly amplify the signal, resulting in memory efficiencies exceeding unity, a clear indication of unwanted noise at the quantum level.

Head injuries and concussions during the tackle are a major concern within tackle-collision sports. To reduce concussion and head impact risk, evaluating optimal tackle techniques to inform tackle-related prevention strategies has been recommended.

Genomes of two siphophages infecting : B1VFA and V1VFA-S, exhibiting phage-plasmid-like features.

We report the genome sequences of two -infecting siphophages, B1VFA and V1VFA-S, isolated from Canadian agricultural soils. Both encode genes associated with plasmid maintenance, including , , and , and share similar genome architecture. These phages expand the diversity of rhizobiophages and may represent a distinct siphophage lineage.

Electrocatalytic Upcycling of PET Waste to Chemical Products and Fuels Coupled With Cathodic Reactions.

Plastic waste continues to be a major environmental challenge, worsened by energy-intensive conventional recycling methods that require highly pure feedstocks. In this review, emerging electrochemical upcycling technologies are critically examined, focusing on the electro-oxidation transformation of polyethylene terephthalate (PET) into valuable chemical products. Key reaction pathways and target products are outlined to clarify the selective electrochemical reforming of PET.

Superparamagnetic Iron Oxide Tracer: A Magnetic Match to Gold Standard in Melanoma Sentinel Lymph Node Biopsy-A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis.

Superparamagnetic iron oxide (SPIO) tracer is a potential option for sentinel lymph node biopsy (SLNB), though its application in melanoma remains minimally explored. This systematic review evaluated the use of SPIO tracer compared to the standard approach for SLNB in melanoma. SPIO demonstrated comparable efficacy and detection rate to the gold standard, with a sensitivity of 94%.

Background: Despite high mortality rates in long-term care (LTC), LTC homes continue to struggle to implement a palliative approach to care.

Objectives: The objective of this research was to implement and evaluate the Strengthening a Palliative Approach in Long-Term Care (SPA-LTC; www.spaltc.

Tongue lesions in feedlot cattle associated with ergot alkaloid consumption.

Over 1200 heavy feedlot cattle presented with severe tongue lesions during a 7-month interval. Review of the literature and discussions with colleagues revealed previous similar outbreaks had occurred in Canada and the USA, with extensive investigations conducted and no cause identified. In the current outbreak, examination of the environment, feed, water, cattle behavior, and husbandry systems were conducted, as well as diagnostic testing including necropsy, histopathology, bacteriology, virology, and toxicology.

Leptospirosis seroprevalence in Canadian beef calves at or near fall weaning.

Objective: Our objective was to estimate the seroprevalences of 6 serovars in beef calves at or near fall weaning and assess how concentrations of serovar antibody titers in weaning-age calves varied with herd vaccination programs.

Animals: Serum was collected from 1922 beef calves from 106 herds in the Canadian Cow-Calf Surveillance Network (C3SN).

Procedure: A microscopic agglutination test was used to measure antibody titers for serovars Bratislava, Canicola, Grippotyphosa, Hardjo, Icterohaemorrhagiae, and Pomona.

Variations in Medical Clearance Testing for Mental Health Emergency Department Visits.

Background And Objectives: There are recommendations against routine medical clearance testing for children evaluated in the emergency department (ED) for mental health concerns. Our objective was to determine variation, factors, and costs associated with medical clearance testing during ED encounters for mental health concerns.

Methods: We conducted a cross-sectional study of ED encounters among children aged 5 to 18 years who presented to 35 US children's hospitals for mental health concerns (2016-2023).

Consensus on clinical outcome measures for lumbar spinal stenosis: recommendations from the ISSLS lumbar spinal stenosis taskforce.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to determine through a Delphi process a list of outcomes measures for clinicians to use when assessing individuals with Lumbar Spinal Stenosis (LSS).

Methods: A three-phase Delphi process was conducted by the International Society for the Study of the Lumbar Spine (ISSLS) Lumbar Spinal Stenosis Taskforce, including two online surveys, two virtual meetings, and three in-person consensus meetings at the ISSLS annual conferences (2023-2025). Participants evaluated and ranked outcome measures for LSS, with final endorsement requiring > 66% agreement.

Background: ICD-11's digital architecture and granularity distinguish it from previous revisions and expand its applicability beyond mortality statistics and public health. The official ICD-11 version is updated annually. However, a separate online Maintenance Platform is continuously updated and hosts the Proposal Platform: a novel online tool that enables interested parties from all over the world to contribute to ICD-11 content.

Bridging Participation Gaps: A Community-Led Inception for Integrating Comprehensive Adolescent-Friendly Family Planning and Post-Abortion Care (CAFFP-PAC) into Primary Healthcare Facilities in Northern Uganda.

Background: Conventional top-down health interventions often exclude adolescents and community stakeholders from service design and implementation, resulting in low uptake and a mismatch with young people's needs. The CAFFP-PAC initiative in Northern Uganda sought to explore how a community-led, adolescent-centered inception process could support integration of adolescent-friendly family planning and post-abortion care into primary healthcare services.

Methods: A participatory qualitative design was employed during an inception meeting in Lira City on April 1, 2025, guided by principles of community-based participatory research and citizen science.

COVID-19 Pandemic-Related Prenatal Distress and Infant Functional Brain Development.

Objective: Psychological distress (eg, anxiety and depression) during pregnancy can disrupt fetal brain development and negatively affect infant behavior. Prenatal distress rose substantially during the COVID-19 pandemic according to most, but not all, studies, raising concerns about its potential effects on brain connectivity and behavior in infants.

Method: We investigated 63 mother-infant pairs as part of the Pregnancy during the COVID-19 Pandemic study.

Advanced maternal age increases the risk of pregnancy complications due, in part, to changes in the uterine environment. Here, we show that uterine aging in mice is associated with a progressive increase in transcriptional variation, accompanied by a notable accumulation of activating histone marks at multiple genomic loci. Importantly, the transcriptional signatures of uterine aging differ substantially from senescence markers associated with organismal aging.

Prescriber Specialty Involvement in Medicare Patients With Chronic Hepatitis B.

Chronic hepatitis B (CHB) is a major cause of liver-related morbidity and mortality in the United States. Patients with CHB require long-term antiviral treatment and consistent follow-up, but often face numerous barriers to accessing care and medications. In this study, we used the Medicare Part D database and the Rural-Urban Continuum code to explore specialty and geographic characteristics of healthcare providers that manage Medicare patients with CHB.
