Stomatal closure is a pervasive response among trees exposed to flooded soil. We tested whether this response is caused by reduced hydraulic conductance in the soil-to-leaf hydraulic continuum (k), and particularly by reduced root hydraulic conductance (k), which has been widely hypothesized. We tracked stomatal conductance at the leaf level (g) and canopy scale (G) along with physiological conditions in two temperate tree species, Magnolia grandiflora and Quercus virginiana, that were subjected to flood and control conditions in a greenhouse experiment.

Purpose: Moyamoya disease (MMD) is a chronic cerebrovascular disorder characterized by progressive arterial stenosis and fragile collateral formation, elevating stroke risk. Revascularization is the standard treatment, yet up to 27% of patients experience ischemic events within a year due to bypass insufficiency. While digital subtraction angiography (DSA) remains the gold standard for assessing bypass function, it is invasive and time-consuming.

Rationale: Autism spectrum disorders (ASD) are a group of neurodevelopmental and multifactorial conditions with cognitive manifestations. The valproic acid (VPA) rat model is a well-validated model that successfully reproduces the behavioral and neuroanatomical alterations of ASD. Previous studies found atypical brain connectivity and metabolic patterns in VPA animals: local glucose hypermetabolism in the prefrontal cortex, with no metabolic changes in the hippocampus.

Introduction: Trichotillomania is an impulse control disorder in which individuals fail to resist urges to pull out their own hair and is associated with significant psychiatric comorbidity and functional impairment in affected children, adolescents, and adults. Onset in childhood or adolescence is typical, yet the literature on phenomenology, psychopathology, and treatment outcome involving pediatric samples remains particularly sparse. Efficacious treatments have been developed and found efficacious, most notably cognitive-behavioral interventions known collectively as habit reversal training, although relapse in adults appears to be somewhat common.

Background: In the National Health and Aging Trends Study (NHATS), use of its Sensitive files leads to incomplete ascertainment of mortality, largely because of losses to follow-up. To account for these losses, we compared two censoring approaches for evaluating mortality.
Methods: In a hybrid approach, most participants were censored at the time of last contact, while the remainder were censored at the time of last completed interview.

To overcome the potential issue of active site blockage by surfactants in colloidal synthesis, alternative synthetic approaches must be explored. In this study, we investigated both solvent-free and colloidal thermolysis routes to synthesize nickel sulfides (NiS and NiS) using sulfur-based Ni complexes, [Ni(SCO(CH))] (Ni-Xan) and [Ni(SCN(CH))] (Ni-DTC) as precursors. The solvent-free decomposition of these complexes produced ligand-free NiS and NiS in the absence or presence of triphenylphosphine (TPP), respectively.

Introduction: Evidence-based interventions to reduce tobacco-related morbidity and mortality are not widely or effectively implemented, thereby failing to equitably address disparities in tobacco-related health outcomes. Implementation science (IS) has the potential to advance the impact of tobacco control programs, but its use in this field has not been previously explored. To identify opportunities for expanding tobacco intervention impact, this scoping review investigated the use of IS tools in tobacco control research in the United States.

Unlabelled: (SA) colonizes most mammals but also represents a danger in clinical settings because it evolves resistance against antibiotics, and SA infections represent a leading cause of death worldwide. SA nasal carriage provides the bacterial reservoir for opportunistic infection because clinical strains often match the patient's own nasally carried strain. The global SA carriage rate is typically reported as 25%-30% after sampling subjects once or twice and defining carrier status using culture-based methods.

Infectious bursal disease (IBD), a highly contagious viral disease in young chickens, poses significant economic losses due to high mortality and immunosuppression. While IBD virus (IBDV) virulence is influenced by multiple genes, whole-genome sequencing (WGS) of IBDV is crucial for defining the strain pathotype and clinical profile. Flinders Technology Associates (FTA) cards are convenient for field sample collection, but their filter paper matrix can hinder nucleic acid recovery, impacting sequencing efficiency.

Baroreflex activation therapy (BAT) improves functional status, quality of life, and exercise capacity in patients with heart failure with reduced ejection fraction; however, its direct effects on reversing adverse cardiac remodeling as assessed by improvements in cardiac structure, function, and coupling with the arterial system remain unclear. We present 2 cases of patients who initially presented with decompensated heart failure, and despite initial medical therapy and continued outpatient follow-up, were unable to tolerate full escalation of guideline-directed medical therapy. The patients remained symptomatic, with high biomarker levels, poor functional capacity, severe heart failure symptoms, and objectively had decreased stroke volume, low left ventricular ejection fraction, and high left ventricular mass.

B-cell maturation antigen (BCMA)-directed chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T-cell therapies have revolutionized the approach and management of relapsed/refractory multiple myeloma (RRMM), and as of 2025, idecabtagene vicleucel (ide-cel) and ciltacabtagene autoleucel (cilta-cel) are the only BCMA-targeted CAR T-cell therapies approved by the FDA. Exceptional responses were demonstrated for heavily pretreated patients in the KarMMa-1 trial, reporting a 73% overall response rate (ORR) and 98% in the CARTITUDE-1 trial. Furthermore, both therapies show a significant improvement in progression-free survival (PFS) compared to standard regimens when administered in earlier lines.

Background: Water hardness, which refers to the level of dissolved calcium and magnesium salts, is of significant public health concern due to its potential impact on health. The association between water hardness and digestive diseases remains underexplored, with limited evidence from small-scale clinical studies. Given the rising prevalence of digestive disorders worldwide, large-scale cohort studies are needed to address this gap in the literature.

Although many real-world time series are complex, developing methods that can learn from their behavior effectively enough to enable reliable forecasting remains challenging. Recently, several machine-learning approaches have shown promise in addressing this problem. In particular, the echo state network (ESN) architecture, a type of recurrent neural network where neurons are randomly connected and only the read-out layer is trained, has been proposed as suitable for many-step-ahead forecasting tasks.
