Here, in the present article, a novel molecularly imprinted polymer (MIP), S-RV-P, was prepared for the recognition and separation of the S-enantiomer of rivastigmine (S-RV) from its racemic form. Synthesis involved the formation of a poly(styrene-co-maleic anhydride) (PSM) matrix that was functionalized with 2-aminoethane-1-thiol (ATH) to introduce thiol and carboxylic acid functionalities to prepare the precursor HS-P-COOH. Post-imprinting was achieved through thiol-maleimide click crosslinking via bismaleimide (BMA) facilitated by S-RV to generate the resultant S-RV-P polymer.

Chitosan (Cs), a biodegradable, and low-cost polymer is a good choice for gas sensor applications. In this study, Cs was modified with graphene oxide (GO) and titanium dioxide (TiO), and its electronic properties were calculated using density functional theory (DFT) at B3LYP/LANL2DZ level. The calculated physical parameters include total dipole moment (TDM), HOMO/LUMO energy gap (ΔE), global reactivity descriptors and density of states (DOS) and mapping the electrostatic potential (MESP).

Copper(II), manganese(II), and mercury(II) complexes of 4-amino-5-(2-(1-pyridine-2-yl)ethylidene)hydrazinyl)-4H-1,2,4-triazole-3-thiol (HTAP) were synthesized and characterized using CHN analysis, FT-IR, H-NMR, C-NMR, UV-Vis, ESR, MS, PXRD, magnetic moment measurements, molar conductance, and TG/DTA. DFT calculations indicate octahedral geometries and the neutral bidentate or tridentate chelating behavior of the ligand. Cyclic voltammetry revealed the complexes' redox properties, and Job's method elucidated stoichiometric compositions in solution.

Background: Primary progressive aphasia (PPA) is a group of dementias characterized by progressive loss of specific language functions with relative sparing of other cognitive domains. Transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) has been introduced as a potential therapeutic option for PPA. We aim to evaluate the efficacy of tDCS in improving cognitive and language functions in patients with PPA.

Cancer is a leading global cause of death, with complex pathogenesis and treatment challenges like poor selectivity, toxicity, and drug resistance. Nanotechnology offers transformative solutions, with plant-derived exosomes (EXOs) emerging as promising green nanomaterials for personalized cancer therapy because of their biocompatibility and minimal antigenicity, and eco-friendly production. This review discusses the potential of plant EXOs in cancer treatment, covering isolation methods, advantages over mammalian EXOs (e.

Previous studies have demonstrated an increased risk of developing Parkinson's disease (PD) in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), as well as more severe and rapid motor and non-motor deterioration in diabetic PD patients compared to their non-diabetic counterparts. Additional research has suggested that diabetic subjects treated with glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor agonists exhibit a reduced incidence of PD compared to those receiving other anti-diabetic medications. GLP-1 receptor agonists are FDA-approved therapies for T2DM, and recent studies have explored their potential as repurposed treatments for neurodegenerative diseases, including PD, AD, and ALS, as well as cerebrovascular disorders.

This study investigates the use of machine learning (ML) models to predict the ultimate load capacity of demountable shear connectors in steel-concrete composite structures. A dataset of 239 experimental and numerical records was assembled, incorporating critical features such as bolt diameter, bolt yield and ultimate strengths, concrete and grout compressive strengths, and multiple interfacial friction coefficients. Eight supervised ML algorithms were evaluated: Linear Regression, Ridge, Lasso, K-Nearest Neighbors (KNN), Support Vector Regression (SVR), Decision Tree, Random Forest, and XGBoost.

Umbilical cord blood is widely regarded as a viable option for allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) and serves as a potential alternative to bone marrow due to its numerous advantages. These include a non-invasive collection process, a high concentration of hematopoietic stem and progenitor cells, and a lower risk of graft rejection. However, its application in adult patients is limited by the suboptimal dose of stem cells available in a single umbilical cord blood unit.

Background: Knee osteoarthritis (KOA) is one of the most common forms of joint degeneration, frequently resulting in persistent pain, reduced mobility, and impaired quality of life. The disease is characterized by the progressive breakdown of articular cartilage, synovial inflammation, and subchondral bone changes. Conventional management options such as analgesics, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), corticosteroid injections, and surgical procedures are primarily aimed at alleviating symptoms rather than reversing or halting disease progression.

Prostatic urethral obstruction (PUO) is the urethral narrowing by the external pressure of an enlarged prostate, which hinders the ability to pass urine normally. The most common reasons for an enlarged prostate are prostate cancer and benign prostate hyperplasia. In this study, we aimed to develop a drug-loaded shape-memory polymer urethral stent (SMPUS) to address PUO.

Background And Aims: Peroral endoscopic myotomy (POEM) necessitates proper orientation of the anatomical landmarks throughout the whole procedure to assess the myotomy, which is the main target of POEM. Insufficient myotomy renders the procedure ineffective and may lead to nonresponse or recurrence, although longer myotomy may increase the risk of reflux. The current conventional methods for esophagogastric junction (EGJ) detection are often operator-dependent, time-consuming, and have questionable accuracy.
