Cardiovascular Renal Disease (CVRD) has been introduced as a syndrome describing the coexistence of certain common diseases. However, this terminology misses the role of metabolic abnormalities not only as relevant comorbidities, but even more as key causal factors. Thus, the word 'metabolic' should come first to define this syndrome as its joint underlying pathogenesis.

Aims/hypothesis: Raised levels of circulating interleukin-8 (IL-8) were reported in adults and children with type 1 diabetes (T1D). In this study, we measured IL-8 and IL-8 receptor expression levels in the pancreas, and IL-8 and myeloperoxidase (MPO) in the serum of recent-onset T1D versus controls.
Methods: Pancreatic samples from donors with T1D within 2 years of diagnosis and from non-diabetic controls were obtained from a diabetes biobank.

Aims: Adult survivors of haematological malignancies are at increased risk of long-term cardiovascular sequelae. Several echocardiographic metrics have been tested to detect subclinical myocardial dysfunction before it progresses toward cardiac events. Myocardial work (MW) is a load-independent echocardiographic index that conjugates non-invasive arterial blood pressure and global longitudinal strain (GLS).

Static radiographic alignment fails to capture the dynamic nature of joint behaviour during functional tasks. To address this, our study evaluated the relationship between Hip-Knee-Ankle angle (HKAA) and dynamic biomechanical variables (dynamic HKAA (dHKAA), via projection of hip, knee, and ankle joint centers onto the frontal plane, knee adduction moment (KAM), and knee abduction angle (KAA)), during gait and sit-to-stand tasks with and without arm assistance. A further objective was to examine the mediolateral center of pressure (COP ML) as a complementary parameter for assessing joint loading and frontal plane alignment.

General anesthesia is the most widely used anesthesia technique for major abdominal surgery, but it may have a longer recovery time, high cost, and environmental impact. In addition, general anesthesia may be contraindicated in some frail patients. Our study aims to evaluate the feasibility and safety of performing colorectal surgery with a minimally invasive technique in frail patients under spinal anesthesia.

Despite outstanding clinical outcomes are routinely achieved after ACL reconstruction (ACLR), the major current issue is the failure rate (re-rupture or objective clinical instability). Reinjury rates have been reported to be about 6% for ipsilateral graft rupture and 8% for contralateral ACL rupture, with a cumulative reinjury rate of about 20%. A comprehensive review of the literature was performed to summarize the latest evidence on biological, surgical and rehabilitation aspects of ACLR.

Over the past two decades, patient safety and clinical risk management have become strategic priorities for healthcare systems worldwide. In this context, the London Protocol has emerged as one of the most influential methodologies for investigating adverse events through a systemic, non-punitive lens. The 2024 edition, curated by Vincent, Adams, Bellandi, and colleagues, represents a significant evolution of the original 2004 framework.

: Endometriosis is a chronic inflammatory condition affecting 10-15% of women of reproductive age. Genome-wide association studies (GWASs) have accounted for only a fraction of its high heritability, indicating the need for alternative approaches to identify rare genetic variants contributing to its etiology. To this end, we performed whole-exome sequencing (WES) in a multi-affected family.

Background: Upfront FOLFOXIRI/bevacizumab is associated with better outcome over doublets/bevacizumab in metastatic colorectal cancer (mCRC), independently of the presence of liver-only disease and the secondary resection of metastatic lesions. Limited data are available about the comparison of these two regimens in patients with initially unresectable liver-only mCRC who represent the optimal candidates according to primary tumour sidedness and/or RAS and BRAF mutational status.
Methods: We performed an individual patient data pooled analysis of four phase II or III randomized trials (TRIBE [NCT00719797], TRIBE2 [NCT02339116], CHARTA [NCT01321957], STEAM [NCT01765582]) to compare efficacy, activity and safety of first-line FOLFOXIRI/bevacizumab versus doublets/bevacizumab in patients with initially unresectable liver-only, right-sided and/or RAS or BRAF mutated mCRC.

Atrial secondary tricuspid regurgitation (A-STR) is a complex and increasingly recognized form of valvular heart disease that arises primarily due to right atrial and tricuspid annular dilation in the absence of intrinsic leaflet pathology. Unlike ventricular secondary tricuspid regurgitation, which is driven by right ventricular remodeling, A-STR is predominantly associated with atrial fibrillation, heart failure with preserved ejection fraction, and other conditions that lead to chronic right atrial remodeling. This condition has been underappreciated despite its significant prevalence and impact on patient morbidity and mortality.

Background And Purpose: As the incidence and mortality rates of pancreatic cancer continue to rise, the search for effective treatments is becoming increasingly urgent. Among the therapeutic approaches, highly hypofractionated stereotactic treatments are being explored. This paper explores the potential of Very High Energy Electrons (VHEE) in the range of 80-130 MeV, in light of recent advances in compact accelerator technology and its compatibility with ultra-high dose rate (UHDR) delivery.

Introduction: The optimal management of patients with asymptomatic carotid stenosis (AsxCS) is enduringly controversial. The current stratification of AsxCS patients based on the degree of stenosis alone does not always reflect ipsilateral ischemic stroke risk. We hypothesized that the presence of ≥1 "high-risk" carotid plaque feature may more accurately identify AsxCS patients at high risk for a future ipsilateral ischemic cerebrovascular event.

Irisin, a myokine secreted during physical activity, has garnered attention for its potential roles in cartilage homeostasis and musculoskeletal health. Whole-body electromyostimulation (WB-EMS) is an emerging exercise modality that enhances muscle recruitment and may stimulate greater irisin release. This study aimed to compare the acute serum irisin response following aerobic exercise with and without WB-EMS in healthy individuals.

Anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction (ACLr) often leads to asymmetries between limbs, with variable return-to-performance rates in athletes. The single-leg countermovement jump (SLCMJ) is commonly used to assess postoperative knee function. However, limited research has explored deficits specifically during the unweighting phase of the jump.
