In this paper, we will present an analysis of three terms central to contemporary cultural critique: age, gender and migration, bringing them together in an approach we call "triangulation". We draw on Katy Gardner's ethnographic study of Bangladeshi migrants to London, Age, Narrative and Migration (2002), which addresses the three terms, to examine the interrelated identity constructions that are at stake in triangulation. In a second step, we analyze Monica Ali's novel Brick Lane (2003) as a pertinent literary example, in which aspects of age, gender, and migration come together in ways that may further illuminate and develop these as terms of cultural critique.

Conventional rigid grippers remain the most-used robotic grippers in industrial assembly tasks. However, they are limited in their ability to handle a diverse range of objects. This study draws inspiration from nature to address these limitations, employing multidisciplinary methods, such as computer-aided design, parametric modeling, finite element analysis, 3D printing, and mechanical testing.

Background: People with advanced illness at home, and their families, rely on 'out-of-hours' services provided by community, primary and specialist palliative care services. Home is commonly expressed as the preferred place to be cared for and die, and an increasing proportion of people are dying at home, but what constitutes 'good' care is poorly understood from the combined perspectives of healthcare professionals and patients and family caregivers.
Objective: To understand the convergence and divergence of the perspectives of healthcare professionals with those of patients and family caregivers, on priorities for home-based palliative care in the 'out-of-hours' period in the UK.

Background: Online postal self-sampling (OPSS) allows service users to screen for sexually transmitted infections (STIs) by ordering a self-sampling kit online, taking their own samples, returning them to a laboratory for testing, and receiving their results remotely. OPSS availability and use has increased in both the United Kingdom and globally the past decade but has been adopted in different regions of England at different times, with different models of delivery. It is not known why certain models were decided on or how implementation strategies have influenced outcomes, including the sustainability of OPSS in sexual health service delivery.

Head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) represents a significant public health burden in developing countries, where access to early diagnosis, comprehensive care, and research infrastructure is limited. This article synthesizes the insights generated during a Fireside Chat convened by members of the Latin American Cooperative Oncology Group (LACOG)-Head and Neck and the Brazilian Group of Head and Neck Cancer (GBCP), with the participation of international expert Professor Hisham Mehanna. The discussion addressed key challenges and opportunities in clinical and translational research within resource-constrained settings.

Background: Tobacco use remains a major public health challenge in sub-Saharan Africa, with significant gendered dimensions. Place of residence is an important determinant, as rural and urban contexts shape exposure, access, and consumption patterns. This study investigates rural-urban disparities in tobacco use among women in sub-Saharan Africa, with a focus on quantifying the relative contributions of socioeconomic factors.

Freshwater mussels are critical to the health of freshwater systems, but their populations are declining dramatically throughout the world. The limited resources available for freshwater mussel conservation necessitates the geographic prioritization of conservation-related actions. However, lack of knowledge about freshwater mussel spatial distributions hinders decision making in this context.

Latent profile analysis (LPA) is in the finite mixture model analysis family and identifies subgroups by participants' responses to continuous variables (i.e., indicators); participants' probable membership in each subgroup is based on the similarity between the subgroup's prototypical responses and the person's unique responses.

Timely access to comprehensive , high-quality emergency obstetric and neonatal care can prevent maternal and neonatal mortality but remains challenging in Benin. We examine geographic accessibility to childbirth care (CBC) in Grand Nokoué, the largest conurbation in Benin. We gathered data on boundaries, health facilities, road network, elevation, land cover, relative wealth, urbanicity, and geo-traced travel speeds over 45 days during the rainy season.

The genomes of 43 distinct lactococcal strains were reconstructed by a combination of long- and short-read sequencing, resolving the plasmid complement and methylome of these strains. The genomes comprised 43 chromosomes of approximately 2.5 Mb each and 269 plasmids ranging from 2 to 211 kb (at an average occurrence of 6 per strain).

This study compared symptom reporting and cognitive test performance within 72 h of a suspected concussion between high school student-athletes with and without pre-injury self-reported mental health treatment. Eight hundred seventy-nine high school athletes with ( = 75) and without ( = 804) a self-reported history of treatment for anxiety or depression underwent preseason baseline testing, and post-injury testing within 72 h of suspected concussion. At baseline, adolescents with a self-reported history of treatment for anxiety or depression ( = 75, 8.

The natural tracers δO and δH are essential for tracing hydrological processes by identifying water sources, tracking evaporation loss and floodwater dynamics to enhance water management and flood mitigation strategies. This study employed this approach in the ephemeral, endorheic Cuvelai-Etosha Basin (CEB), spanning northern Namibia and southern Angola, to determine its viability in capturing spatial and temporal hydrological patterns, their timing and interactions during a medium flood condition (2017), and contrasted with a drought year (2014). During the 2017 wet season 219 grab surface water samples were collected from ephemeral waterbodies in four sampling campaigns (February, March, April and May) in addition to a single campaign in May 2014 (63 samples).

This article examines civil society organisations working to enhance social mobility in England, especially through higher education. Against the backdrop of neoliberal governance, we investigate whether these organisations operate as protective counter-movements resisting marketisation or as institutional mechanisms that stabilise the inequalities they aim to address. Drawing on Karl Polanyi's concept of the 'double movement' and Nancy Fraser's critique of marketised social protections, we map and analyse over 100 charities and non-profits established since 1992.

Chronic venous insufficiency (CVI) develops as a consequence of valvular incompetence or venous obstruction over time and can significantly impair quality of life. Its prevalence and burden are highest among older adults, as the physiological changes of aging predispose to the onset and progression of CVI. We present an overview of the evaluation and management of CVI in older adults, with a focus on superficial venous disease.

Hepatitis B virus (HBV) is a potentially chronic infection that can be transmitted from mother to child with the risk of developing cirrhosis, liver failure and hepatocellular carcinoma. There is a safe and effective vaccine to prevent vertical transmission that is recommended to be given as soon as possible after birth and within 24 hours. When a woman with HBV refuses the birth dose of HBV vaccine for her baby, infectious diseases and safeguarding teams are asked to provide urgent opinions on whether this crosses the threshold for triggering child protection mechanisms.

Introduction: PhysiCards© have been co-designed to support an interactive, person-led approach to help people with mental health conditions identify and respond to cardiovascular disease (CVD) and other physical health concerns. This study aimed to test the efficacy of the PhysiCards© in assisting people accessing support from a mental health community managed organisation to identify and take action to address CVD and other physical health concerns.
Study Design: Parallel-group randomised controlled trial.
