Emerging Molecular Targets in Neurodegenerative Disorders: New Avenues for Therapeutic Intervention.

Basic Clin Pharmacol Toxicol

October 2025

Department of Medical Pharmacology, Faculty of Medicine, Eskisehir Osmangazi University, Eskisehir, Turkey.

Neurodegenerative disorders such as Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, Huntington's disease, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis and frontotemporal dementia represent a significant global health burden with limited therapeutic options. Current treatments are primarily symptomatic and fail to modify disease progression, emphasizing the urgent need for novel, mechanism-based interventions. Recent advances in molecular neuroscience have identified several non-classical pathogenic pathways, including neuroinflammation, mitochondrial dysfunction, impaired autophagy and proteostasis, synaptic degeneration and non-coding RNA dysregulation.

The complex (MTBC) is a group of bacteria causing tuberculosis (TB) in humans and animals. Understanding MTBC genetic diversity is crucial for insights into its adaptation and traits related to survival, virulence, and antibiotic resistance. While it is known that within-MTBC diversity is characterised by large deletions found only in certain lineages (regions of difference [RDs]), a comprehensive pangenomic analysis incorporating both coding and non-coding regions remains unexplored.

Background: Pulpitis is an oral disease primarily triggered by microbial infections. Current therapeutic strategies lack specific agents targeting the underlying pathogenic mechanisms. Non-coding RNAs (ncRNAs) and their competitive endogenous RNA (ceRNA) networks have emerged as critical regulators of diverse biological processes, offering novel insights into the pathogenesis of pulpitis and the identification of potential therapeutic targets.

Author's response to the letter "From correlation to causation: unraveling the role of long non-coding RNAs in COVID-19 pathogenesis".

Virol J

Basic and Molecular Epidemiology of Gastrointestinal Disorders Research Center, Research Institute for Gastroenterology and Liver Diseases, Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences, Tehran, Iran.

A recent letter to the editor, from correlation to causation: unraveling the role of long non-coding RNAs in COVID-19 pathogenesis, provided recommendations and suggestions concerning our published paper, Long non-coding RNAs in Biomarking COVID-19: A Machine Learning-Based Approach (2024). The comments focused primarily on future directions. In this response, we clarify and emphasize the rationale underlying our original approach.
