In sound card-based gamma spectroscopy, a computer sound card serves as the multichannel analyzer in a spectroscopic system with a lower price point and more compact form factor than many traditional systems. A mobile system for radiation measurements, named RadMap, was created to investigate the potential of using sound card spectroscopy in a handheld, mobile radiation measurement and spectroscopic device. RadMap was designed using commercially available parts, including a sound card spectrometer, and is compatible with most photomultiplier tube scintillators for spectroscopic applications or Geiger-Mueller detectors for non-spectroscopic usage. Measurements of 137Cs, 22Na, 54Mn, and 60Co were made using RadMap and two professional desktop gamma spectroscopy systems to characterize RadMap's spectroscopic capabilities relative to those commercial devices. Radiation surveys were created of a 14,000 m2 outdoor space on a college campus using RadMap and other commercially available survey meters for comparison. The results of these experiments suggest that RadMap can provide high quality spectroscopic information and mapable survey information in a device with a favorable price point while enabling easy user modifications. Exact details regarding the components used and their functions are provided to facilitate the creation or further development of a similar system by any interested party.

Several properties are carefully considered before choosing a semiconducting material for the fabrication of a thin-film electronic device. Cadmium indium selenide (CdInSe) is a ternary semiconducting compound belonging to the II-III-VI family, where II = zinc (Zn), cadmium (Cd), or mercury (Hg); III = aluminium (Al), gallium (Ga), or indium (In); and VI = sulphur (S), selenium (Se), or tellurium (Te). The Cambridge serial total energy package (CASTEP) module, within the framework of density functional theory (DFT) using the PBE-GGA (Perdew-Burke-Ernzerhof generalized gradient approximation), was used to compute the elastic constants for the CdInSe ternary semiconducting compound.

The aim of this study was to analyze and compare the error types of alveolar sounds /s/, /ts'/, and /ts/ (ie, fricative and affricate sounds) in different ethnic groups (Han, Uyghur, Kazakh) after palatoplasty. The goal was to provide a basis for clinical assessment and effective intervention. A total of 68 patients who had undergone palatoplasty in our hospital's maxillofacial surgery department were retrospectively selected; all presented with alveolar sound abnormalities.

The goal of this research was to determine the contributions of auditory neural processing and cognitive abilities to predict performance on a speech-in-noise perception task in young, normal hearing adults. Two experiments were performed, each with separate cohorts of ∼30 young adults with normal hearing who performed a competing talker task which included a high-pass filtered condition that was designed to be more sensitive to auditory nerve functioning than are commonly used speech-in-noise perception tests. Predictors of performance on this competing talker task included ABR waves I and V metrics and cognitive test scores.

The mechanical properties of music wire are contingent upon its microstructure, which in turn influences its applications in music. Chinese stringed instruments necessitate exacting standards for comprehensive performance indexes, particularly with regard to the strength, resilience, and rigidity of the musical steel wires, which differ from the Western approach to musical wire. In this study, SWP-B music wire was selected for investigation through metal heat treatment, which was employed to regulate its microstructure characteristics.
