Article Abstract

Introduction: Calcium silicate-based root canal sealers exhibit biocompatibility and bioactivity. The aim of this study was to evaluate and compare the influence of irrigating solutions on the hydration property of tricalcium silicate-based sealers.

Methods: In an in vitro model, each group of sealer cylinders, Group 1 (Dia-Root Bio Sealer) and Group 2 (CeraSeal), was divided into four subgroups (n = 22) based on the irrigating solutions: Subgroup A, 3% sodium hypochlorite (NaOCl) (Parcan, Septodont, France); Subgroup B, combination of NaOCl and etidronic acid (EA) (Twin Kleen, Maarc Dental, India); Subgroup C, chitosan-based endo-radiopaque solution (CERS) (Patented product, India); and Subgroup D, normal saline (negative control). Each sample was covered in a gauze soaked with 20 mL of irrigating solutions for 30 min. Samples were examined for morphology using scanning electron microscopy with energy-dispersive spectroscopy, for phases formed using Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy, and for calcium ion release using inductively coupled plasma technique.

Results: The irrigating solutions influenced the hydration property of the bioceramic sealers used, and different amounts of calcium ions were seen in each group. Samples immersed in CERS and saline released considerably more calcium, which was significantly higher ( < 0.001) than NaOCl and NaOCl + EA solutions.

Conclusion: CERS positively influenced the bioactivity of tricalcium silicate-based sealers. CeraSeal leached more calcium ions than Dia-Root Bio Sealer.

Saline nasal irrigation provides symptom relief in allergic rhinitis (AR), but the optimal saline concentration remains uncertain. The comparative efficacy of 3% hypertonic saline nasal irrigation (HSNI) versus 0.9% isotonic saline is still debated.

APAO survey of cataract surgeons' attitudes toward operating room waste.

Asia Pac J Ophthalmol (Phila)

September 2025

Department of ophthalmology, Sarawak General Hospital, Kuching, Malaysia.

Purpose: To determine Asia Pacific cataract surgeons' attitudes toward surgical waste and toward reusing supplies and pharmaceuticals.

Design: Multinational survey of APAO members METHODS: An online survey link was distributed to APAO members through their national ophthalmology societies. Responses were deidentified and compared with those from identical survey questionnaires previously distributed to North American and European cataract surgeons.

Background: The World Health Organization recommends at-home management of mild COVID-19. While our preliminary evaluation provided evidence for saline nasal irrigation (SNI) and gargling in COVID-19, an update and risk-benefit assessment for self-care in Omicron infection is warranted, from treatment and preparedness perspectives, as new SARS-CoV-2 variants continuously emerge, while symptoms overlap with those of common colds and other upper respiratory tract infections.

Methods: Systematic literature searches for preclinical and clinical studies involving Omicron infection and saline, bias assessment, and review of outcomes (benefits, risks).

River systems, besides shaping their landscapes through the formation of Fluvisols, can also act as pathways for transporting significant pollutants, affecting both the river and its surrounding areas. One such pollutant is mercury (Hg). To assess the impact on sediments and adjacent riverbanks, including Fluvisols and their vegetation, the alluvial plains near Poland's most important river have been studied to understand this process and propose effective management measures.

Sustainable water, energy and food (WEF) supplies are the bedrock upon which human society depends. Solar-driven interfacial evaporation, combined with electricity generation and cultivation, is a promising approach to mitigate the freshwater, energy and food crises. However, the performance of solar-driven systems decreases significantly during operation due to uncontrollable weather.
