River systems, besides shaping their landscapes through the formation of Fluvisols, can also act as pathways for transporting significant pollutants, affecting both the river and its surrounding areas. One such pollutant is mercury (Hg). To assess the impact on sediments and adjacent riverbanks, including Fluvisols and their vegetation, the alluvial plains near Poland's most important river have been studied to understand this process and propose effective management measures.

Most studies on soil enzymes are focused on the upper horizons of the soil profile, even though they transform the soil organic matter at every depth of the soil profile. The aim of this work was to investigate the distribution of β-glucosidase (GLU), nitrate reductase (NR), urease (UR), phosphatase (PHA), dehydrogenase (DHA) and catalase (CAT) activity through 14 trunked soil profiles of the Luvisols formed from a glacial till. The content of microbial biomass carbon (MBC) as well as physicochemical properties such as organic carbon (C), total nitrogen (N), available P, K and Mg, soil density and porosity, pH in KCl and fractional composition were also studied.

The present study describes properties of humic substances of the Fluvisols (the Lower Vistula, Poland). Fluvisols under agricultural management (arable soil and grassland) were sampled from the surface horizon 50, 200, 600, and 900 m from the Vistula River. The content of carbon in the fractions of humic acids (C), fulvic acids (C), and humins (C) as well as the content of dissolved organic carbon (DOC) were assayed.

The obtained crystals were analyzed using powder X-ray diffraction (PXRD) technique. In order to better understand the effect of the surface on evaporative crystallization, crystals deposited on glass were scraped off.
