Article Abstract

Septic pulmonary embolism (SPE) is characterised by embolisation of infectious thrombi into the pulmonary circulation and often leads to the formation of nodules and cavities. Although right-sided infective endocarditis (RIE) is a major cause of SPE, reports on the long-term outcomes of pulmonary cavities following SPE remain limited. This report presents the case of a previously healthy early adolescent woman who developed SPE secondary to RIE caused by methicillin-sensitive Pulmonary cavities persisted in this patient despite appropriate antibiotic therapy and surgical resection of a vegetation on the tricuspid valve, which attenuated the acute phase of SPE. One year later, chronic pulmonary aspergillosis (CPA) was diagnosed, and oral itraconazole therapy was started. The pulmonary cavities have gradually reduced in size over more than 10 years of follow-up and resolved without surgical intervention.

Background: Actinomyces graevenitzii is a relatively uncommon Actinomyces species, which is an oral species and predominantly recovered from respiratory locations [1,2]. It is a gram-positive anaerobic bacteria or microaerobic filamentation bacteria, which can induce pyogenic and granulomatous inflammation characterized by swelling and concomitant pus, sinus formation, and the formation of yellow sulfur granules. All tissues and organs can be infected; the most common type involves the neck and face (55%), followed by the abdominal and pelvic cavities (20%).

Background: Managing stage IV thymoma with pleural spread or recurrence remains a complex clinical challenge. While complete resection is considered essential for achieving long-term survival, its feasibility and outcomes vary. Inspired by surgical strategies used in malignant pleural mesothelioma, we applied a multimodal approach combining extensive thymectomy, cytoreductive lung-preserving pleurectomy/decortication, and intraoperative photodynamic therapy (PDT) to enhance local control and survival outcomes.

» Early-onset scoliosis (EOS) causes restrictive lung disease, secondary to deformation of the thoracic cavity, stiffening of the chest wall, and weakening of the respiratory muscles.» Early spinal fusion has been shown to limit thoracic growth and be associated with poor pulmonary outcomes. This has led to the rise of growth-friendly surgical techniques to maximize thoracic growth.

A Readily Synthesized All-In-One Nanowire Hydrogel: Toward Inhibiting Tumor Recurrence and Postoperative Infection.

Surgical resection remains the frontline intervention for cancer; however, postoperative tumor recurrence and wound infection remain critical unmet challenge in surgical oncology. Herein, an all-in-one nanowired hydrogel (V-Hydrogel) is developed through a facile one-step assembly employing enzyme-mimetic VO nanowires and bactericidal crosslinker THPS. The V-Hydrogel reserves the glutathione peroxidase-, peroxidase-, catalase-, and oxidase-mimetic enzymatic activities derived from vanadium oxide nanowires, thereby exhibiting efficient tumor-specific catalytic therapy.

Background: commonly colonizes the genitourinary tract and primarily affects immunocompromised individuals. It is mostly confined to localized infections, with bloodstream dissemination being rare. Because of its fastidious nutritional requirements, the organism is seldom recovered by routine blood culture, and the absence of a cell wall renders it intrinsically resistant to many first-line antimicrobials.
