In March 2025, following the annual International Committee on Taxonomy of Viruses (ICTV) ratification vote, newly proposed taxa were added to those under the mandate of the Plant Viruses Subcommittee. In brief, 1 new order, 3 new families, 6 new genera, 2 new subgenera and 206 new species were created. Some taxa were reorganized. Genus in the family was abolished and its taxa were redistributed into three new genera , and . Genus in the family was reorganized into two subgenera ( and ). One family and four previously unaffiliated genera were moved to the newly established order . Twelve species not assigned to a genus were abolished. To comply with the ICTV mandate of a binomial format for virus species, eight species were renamed. Demarcation criteria in the absence of biological information were defined in the genus (family ). This article presents the updated taxonomy put forth by the Plant Viruses Subcommittee and ratified by the ICTV.

Metatranscriptome sequencing has emerged as a powerful tool for uncovering viral diversity in insects and their associated microbes. To explore viruses linked to the pea aphid (Acyrthosiphon pisum), we performed metatranscriptome sequencing on field-collected samples. In addition to several known plant viruses, we assembled the genome of a new virus homologous to species in the family Mitoviridae, which are positive-sense single-stranded RNA viruses that encode only an RNA-dependent RNA polymerase and typically replicate in mitochondria.

Raccoon dog parvovirus (RDPV) is a highly contagious pathogen causing severe hemorrhagic enteritis that is fatal in young raccoon dogs. Since 2016, epidemiological investigations have documented recurrent outbreaks of RDPV, exhibiting heightened virulence; however, the molecular mechanisms driving this increased pathogenicity remain poorly understood. In this study, an alignment of 67 complete RDPV sequences identified two high-frequency amino acid mutations at positions 27 and 297 in the VP2 capsid protein that distinguish RDPV strains from before and after the 2016 outbreak.
