Article Abstract

A novel therapeutic strategy for form deprivation myopia (FDM) involving Timp2-modified scleral stem cells (SSC) embedded in gelatin-hydroxyphenylpropionic acid (Gtn-HPA) hydrogel was investigated. Transcriptome and single-cell RNA sequencing analyses identified Timp2 as a crucial factor in FDM progression due to its reduced expression in FDM sclera. The developed SSC-Gtn-HPA hydrogel composite demonstrated excellent biocompatibility, rapid gelation, and degradation properties. studies showed that SSC-GH promoted human scleral fibroblast (HSF) proliferation, inhibited apoptosis, and prevented differentiation. experiments in mice showed that SSC-GH effectively regulated ocular parameters, facilitated scleral recovery, and improved FDM conditions. These results highlight the potential of SSC-GH as a promising therapeutic approach for myopia treatment by enhancing scleral recovery.

Rationale: Extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) is a life-support technology for refractory cardiac arrest, but the massive blood transfusions required during treatment significantly increase the risk of transfusion-related infections. Hepatitis E virus (HEV) - traditionally linked to fecal-oral transmission - is increasingly recognized as a transfusion-transmitted pathogen, especially in emergency settings where urgent blood product infusion is common and routine HEV screening in blood banks is often lacking. However, nursing strategies for managing acute HEV infection after ECMO remain poorly defined, highlighting the need to address this clinical gap.

Keratoconus (KCN), a progressive ectatic corneal disorder, significantly impacts vision-related quality of life (VRQoL) beyond reduced visual acuity. This review aims to comprehensively examine the impact of keratoconus on patients' quality of life (QoL), considering its economic burden and the effectiveness of various treatment modalities in improving QoL outcomes. KCN profoundly impacts VRQoL, exceeding the effects of reduced visual acuity alone.

Temporal Trends and Regional Variations in Retinal Detachment Repair Procedures in the United States.

J Vitreoretin Dis

August 2025

Department of Ophthalmology & Vision Science, Tschannen Eye Institute, University of California, Davis, Sacramento, CA, USA.

To describe whether monitoring shifts in practice patterns and reimbursements for retinal detachment (RD), a sight-threatening condition requiring prompt treatment, can improve patient outcomes and optimize healthcare resource allocation. This cross-sectional population-based study evaluated trends and geographic variations in RD repair procedures using Medicare fee-for-service provider utilization and payment Part B data from 2013 to 2021. Our analysis used Current Procedural Terminology codes for pars plana vitrectomy (PPV), complex repair, scleral buckling, pneumatic retinopexy, photocoagulation, and cryotherapy.

A patient with acute hepatitis E and intractable vomiting: a case report.

Front Med (Lausanne)

July 2025

Department and Institute of Infectious Disease, Tongji Hospital, Tongji Medical College and State Key Laboratory for Diagnosis and Treatment of Severe Zoonotic Infectious Disease, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Wuhan, Hubei, China.

We reported a patient with acute hepatitis E who had recurrent vomiting and dizziness that are uncommon in other patients with hepatitis E. The patient developed dizziness 1 month ago prior, accompanied by yellow urine, sclera, and staining of the skin. Half a month prior, the patient gradually developed fatigue and a poor appetite, accompanied by nausea, aversion to oil, loss of appetite, and itching of the skin.

Malaria continues to pose a significant public health challenge, particularly in certain regions of Indonesia, where it remains endemic. is responsible for the most severe form of the disease, often leading to life-threatening complications such as acute kidney injury (AKI). Here, we report the case of a 22-year-old male from Sikka Regency, East Nusa Tenggara, Indonesia, with a seven-day history of intermittent fever following recent travel to malaria-endemic areas.
