Article Abstract

High-speed running (HSR) is one of the performance metrics of interest, as the volume of HSR during matches has been increasing over the last decade, which suggests that weekly training loads should be adjusted to align with this trend, enabling players to cope with match demands. However, the use of HSR thresholds lacks a solid rationale for their application and fails to account for individual player capacities, likely not reflecting their actual HSR efforts. As such, this theoretical-discussion provides important implications for training prescription, aiming to optimize performance and minimize fatigue. It emphasizes the significant differences in the conceptualization of HSR and highlight the advantages of adopting a normalized approach that reflects the physiological, mechanical and neuromuscular aspects related to HSR, as well as the intermittent profile of football matches. Practical HSR threshold definitions tailored to the capacities of each athlete are proposed, enabling a more evidence-based approach for the interpretation of training loads and game/player profiling. More specifically, within our proposal, HSR can be subdivided into two types: (1) HSR-1, characterized by an entry threshold based on a normalized critical speed, and (2) HSR-2, defined by an entry threshold corresponding to 75% of the athlete's maximum speed.

Purpose: To determine the total daily energy expenditure (TDEE) of male English Premier League (EPL) players during one-game week (1GW) and two-game week (2GW) microcycles, thereby informing carbohydrate (CHO) guidelines aligned to the increasing physical demands of the game.

Methods: Nine male players from an EPL club were assessed over a 15-day in-season period, including a 1GW followed by a 2GW. Measurements included TDEE (doubly labelled water, DLW), energy intake (remote food photography method, RFPM) and external physical loading.

This study aimed to determine the peak locomotor match demands between starters and non-starting soccer players according to playing position and match outcome. Twenty-two young outfield soccer players were observed over 17 official matches. Locomotor performance during the matches was recorded per minute: total distance (TD), high-speed running distance (HSD, >19.

Machinability of Basalt and Glass Fiber Hybrid Composites in Dry Drilling Using TiN/TiAlN-Coated Drill Bits.

Polymers (Basel)

Department of Airframe and Powerplant Maintenance, Faculty of Aeronautics and Astronautics, Kocaeli University, Kocaeli 41001, Türkiye.

Drilling-induced damage in fiber-reinforced polymer composite materials was measured excavating four laminates, basalt (B), glass (G) and their two sandwich type hybrids (BGB, GBG), with 6 mm twist drills at 1520 revolutions per minute and 0.10 mm rev under dry running with an uncoated high-speed steel (HSS-R), grind-coated high-speed steel (HSS-G) or physical vapor deposition-coated (high-speed steel coated with Titanium Nitride (TiN) and Titanium Aluminum Nitride (TiAlN)) drill bits. The hybrid sheets were deliberately incorporated to clarify how alternating basalt-glass architectures redistribute interlaminar stresses during drilling, while the hard, low-friction TiN and TiAlN ceramic coatings enhance cutting performance by forming a heat-resistant tribological barrier that lowers tool-workpiece adhesion, reduces interface temperature, and thereby suppresses thrust-induced delamination.

Football performance results from the dynamic interaction between physical, tactical, technical, and psychological dimensions-each of which also influences player well-being, recovery, and readiness. However, integrated monitoring approaches remain scarce, particularly in youth and sub-elite contexts. This systematic review screened 341 records from PubMed, Scopus, and Web of Science, with 46 studies meeting the inclusion criteria ( = 1763 players; age range: 13.

To explore the effects of Ramadan on proxy measures of match physical performance in professional Muslim football players competing in the Qatar Stars League using a three-phase interrupted time-series design. We examined total, high-speed running ( > 15 km·h), very-high speed running ( > 20 km·h), and sprinting ( > 25 km·h) distances covered (m) by 45 professional Muslim football players tracked during official matches (322 individual measurements over 10 consecutive league rounds) and training (1168 individual observations) in periods preceding, during, and after Ramadan 1445. Separate multivariable-adjusted random-effects generalized additive models quantified the phase-specific effects of Ramadan on match running distances interpreted against the random match-to-match variability in total, high-speed running, very-high speed running, and sprinting distance of ± 494 m (95% confidence interval [CI], 480 to 508 m), ±200 m (95% CI, 195 to 206 m), ±102 m (95% CI, 99 to 105 m), and ± 60 m (95% CI, 58 to 61 m), respectively.
