In this study we propose a new class of artificial neurons and memristors made of active chiral particles. We formulate a single-particle model to simulate active chiral particle behavior in a two-terminal device, with resistance depending on the particle position. We create a dynamical phase map connecting particle trajectories and memristor electrical properties to applied voltage and particle's self-propulsion parameters. Analysis of spiking modes in artificial neurons, with and without noise, shows the memristor switches between high- and low-resistance states, exhibiting stable limit cycles in the position-voltage phase response.

Introduction: Understanding how neural networks process complex patterns of information is crucial for advancing both neuroscience and artificial intelligence. To investigate fundamental principles of neural computation, we examined whether dissociated neuronal cultures, one of the most primitive living neural networks, exhibit regularity sensitivity beyond mere stimulus-specific adaptation and deviance detection.
Methods: We recorded activity to oddball electrical stimulation paradigms from dissociated rat cortical neurons cultured on high-resolution CMOS microelectrode arrays.

Mimicking human brain functionalities with neuromorphic devices represents a pivotal breakthrough in developing bioinspired electronic systems. The human somatosensory system provides critical environmental information and facilitates responses to harmful stimuli, endowing us with good adaptive capabilities. However, current sensing technologies often struggle with insufficient sensitivity, dynamic response, and integration challenges.

Purpose: To analyze macular microvascular networks and investigate correlations between visual acuity and quantitative parameters in patients with Leber's hereditary optic neuropathy (LHON) using optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA).
Methods: An observational, cross-sectional study was conducted, including 25 eyes from 25 genetically confirmed chronic LHON patients and 25 eyes from 25 age-matched healthy controls. Images were obtained using a spectral domain OCTA system.

Erythropoietin (Epo) and its non-erythropoietic splice variant EV-3 have demonstrated potent neuroprotective effects across species, although the respective mechanisms are variable and incompletely understood. Unlike vertebrates, insects lack both Epo and the classical Epo receptor but express Cytokine Receptor-Like Factor 3 (CRLF3), a conserved type I receptor that serves as a neuroprotective receptor for Epo and EV-3 in insects and human iPSC-derived neuron-like cells. Insects, which express CRLF3 but lack all other group 1 type I cytokine receptors, represent a suitable model to study the function of CRLF3 in neuroprotection.

Electrophysiological implants enable exploration of the relationship between neuronal activity and behavior. These technologies evolve rapidly, with multiple iterations of recording systems developed and utilized. Chronic implants must address a litany of complications, including retention of high signal-to-noise ratio in probes and the ability to withstand excess force over the experimental period.
