Article Abstract

Objective: To understand the current status of residents' knowledge-attitudes-practice(KAP)towards air pollution and environmental health in four cities, and to evaluate the effectiveness of interventions.

Methods: Using cluster sampling, a comprehensive intervention targeting KAP regarding air pollution and environmental health was conducted among 2431 adult residents in Beijing City, Yichang City, Dandong City and Lhasa City in 2023. Baseline surveys and effectiveness evaluation surveys were conducted before and after the intervention.

Results: After intervention, the KAP scores of residents in the four cities were 86.27±10.49, which was higher than the intervention score of 70.00±14.60(χ~2=61.48, P<0.01). After intervention, the scores for the three dimensions of KAP were 30.64±3.23, 24.28±3.78 and 31.34±6.44, respectively. There were statistically significant differences in the levels of KAP in knowledge, attitudes, and practice before and after the intervention(χ~2 values were 46.84, 37.84 and 49.94, respectively, P<0.01). After intervention, the overall level of KAP, as well as the average level of KAP in three dimensions, improved among different populations, and the difference was statistically significant. The difference after intervention was greater in Dandong City(24.27±12.95, P<0.01) than in Beijing City(15.64±11.44, P<0.01), Lhasa City(15.23±12.53, P<0.01), and Yichang City(10.02±11.10, P<0.01). The difference was also greater in males(16.72±13.41, P<0.01) than in females(15.967±12.80, P<0.01). Additionally, the improvement was more significant among individuals aged 60 and above(20.20±12.86, P<0.01) compared to those aged 46-60(17.99±12.70, P<0.01) and those aged 18-45(12.86±12.53, P<0.01). Furthermore, the improvement was more pronounced among individuals with junior high school education(21.08±12.59, P<0.01) compared to those with primary school and below education(17.49±13.06, P<0.01), vocational school/high school education(16.06±12.38, P<0.01), college/undergraduate education(12.44±12.61, P<0.01), and master's degree and above education(10.36±10.49, P<0.01).

Conclusion: Comprehensive intervention measures are an effective means to enhance the KAP of community residents regarding air pollution and environmental health.

Background: Children in low- and middle-income countries face obstacles to optimal language and cognitive development due to a variety of factors related to adverse socioeconomic conditions. One of these factors is compromised caregiver-child interactions and associated pressures on parenting. Early development interventions, such as dialogic book-sharing (DBS), address this variable, with evidence from both high-income countries and urban areas of low- and middle-income countries showing that such interventions enhance caregiver-child interaction and the associated benefits for child cognitive and socioemotional development.

African Swine Fever (ASF), caused by the highly contagious African swine fever virus (ASFV), poses a significant threat to domestic and wild pigs worldwide. Despite its limited host range and lack of zoonotic potential, ASF has severe socio-economic and environmental consequences. Current control strategies primarily rely on early detection and culling of infected animals, but these measures are insufficient given the rapid spread of the disease.

While the cancer genome is well-studied, the nongenetic exposome of cancer remains elusive, particularly for regionally prevalent cancers with poor prognosis. Here, by employing a combined knowledge- and data-driven strategy, we profile the chemical exposome of plasma from 53 healthy controls, 14 esophagitis and 101 esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) patients, and 46 esophageal tissues across 12 Chinese provinces, integrating inorganic, endogenous, and exogenous chemicals. We first show that components of the ESCC chemical exposome mediate the relationship between ESCC-related dietary/lifestyle factors and clinic health status indicators.
