The interest in atomically dispersed transition metal (TM-N -C) electrocatalysts for a plethora of electrochemical reactions has risen dramatically due to their superior selective activities and operational durability. Concerning the oxygen reduction reaction (ORR), diverse simple and complex synthetic routes are used to synthesize TM-N -C. However, each known route exploits a pyrolysis step to (i) stabilize the TM-N over the carbon support, (ii) create active sites, and (iii) enhance graphitization. Commonly, the synthetic routes also involve a postpyrolytic treatment to enhance atomic level homogenization/distribution of the active moieties and remove undesired active sites such as nanoparticles and oxides. Synthetic processes are discussed and the reaction mechanisms are highlighted. Recently, in situ characterization methods and techniques have unraveled the evolution, growth, and then transformation of active site structure and morphological attributes during the pyrolytic process. In this review, the synergistic effects of surface chemistry and morphology of these electrocatalysts are reported and discussed.

Herein, 1,3,5-benzenetricarboxylate (BTC) intercalation and oxygen vacancy engineering are proposed to enhance the electrochemical performance of layered double hydroxide (LDH) nanosheets. The optimized LDH exhibits a remarkable capacity of 426 mAh g at 3 A g and 70% capacity retention after 15 000 cycles, attributed to improved ion transport, abundant active sites, and structural stability.

Introduction: Acupuncture has emerged as an effective adjunctive therapy for polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) with concern on the higher rate of adverse events (AE). In addition, timing of intervention, specific acupoints, and stimulation strength are concerning, as high-stimulation electroacupuncture (EA) may increase miscarriage risk. This review aims to systematically evaluate the safety profile of acupuncture in PCOS.

genome editing with CRISPR-Cas9 systems is generating worldwide attention and enthusiasm for the possible treatment of genetic disorders. However, the consequences of potential immunogenicity of the bacterial Cas9 protein and the AAV capsid have been the subject of considerable debate. Here, we model the antigen presentation in cells after gene editing by transduction of a human cell line with an AAV2 vector that delivers the Cas9 transgene.

To address the issue of biological pollution in cellulose triacetate (CTA) membranes during seawater desalination, silver (Ag) nanoparticles were incorporated onto the CTA surface using polydopamine (PDA). PDA, which contains phenolic and amino groups, exhibits excellent adhesiveness and provides active sites for the attachment and reduction for Ag nanoparticles. Various characterizations confirm the successful introduction of Ag nanoparticles onto the surface of the PDA-modified CTA (PCTA) membrane and the preservation of CTA microstructures.

A novel isatin-thiazole-coumarin hybrid and three isatin-hydantoin hybrids were synthesized and assessed for their α-glucosidase and anticholinesterase inhibitory activities. Moreover, their anticancer properties have been observed against the breast cancer cell lines MCF-7 and MDA-MB-231. The coumarin-containing hybrid exhibited the most potent biological activity across all assays.
