Sulfur-directed C-H functionalization of N-heterocycles has emerged as an alternative solution to weakly coordinating carbonyl directing groups. In this study, we describe a sulfur-promoted Rh(III)-catalyzed C5 amidation of 4-thioquinazolinones using dioxazolones, yielding 5-amido-4-thioquinazolinones. The synthetic utility was demonstrated through a gram-scale experiment and synthetic modifications of the title compounds. A series of mechanistic investigations, including competition experiments, elucidated the effectiveness of the sulfur directing group in this process.

Aims: Skeletal muscle energetic augmentation might be a mechanism via which intravenous iron improves symptoms in heart failure, but no direct measurement of intrinsic mitochondrial function has been performed to support this notion. This molecular substudy of the FERRIC-HF II trial tested the hypothesis that ferric derisomaltose (FDI) would improve electron transport chain activity, given its high dependence on iron-sulfur clusters which facilitate electron transfer during oxidative phosphorylation.

Hydroxymethyl-methyl-α-lactone (HMML) is a key epoxide precursor in forming tracer compounds 2-methylglyceric acid (2-MG) or 2-methylglyceric acid sulfate (2-MGOS) from isoprene under high-NOx conditions. Despite its importance, the formation and transformation of HMML─particularly under acidic aerosol conditions─are still poorly understood, limiting comprehensive knowledge of secondary organic aerosol (SOA) formation.
