(1) Background: Telemedicine is increasingly recognized as a potential way to help overcome barriers to accessing veterinary care. This study explored pet owners' perspectives on telemedicine services in situation they viewed as veterinary emergencies, focusing on both their access-to-care challenges and their expectations of such services. (2) Methods: Semi-structured, one-on-one interviews were conducted with 18 pet owners in Ontario, Canada. All participants were unable to access in-person care, leading them to a veterinary telemedicine service. Interviews were supplemented by an online questionnaire to collect demographic information. Thematic analysis was conducted on all interview transcripts. (3) Results: Participants' expectations of telemedicine were largely informed by their uncertainty about their pets' health in emergency situations. Anxiety was common, leading them to seek telemedicine for reassurance. Participants expected advice and guidance, viewing the process as collaborative. While acknowledging the benefits of telemedicine in their situation, participants also acknowledged the inherent limitations of this type of service, articulating a general preference for in-person veterinary care. (4) Conclusions: When in-person care is unavailable, telemedicine can offer pet owners valuable guidance, clarity, and comfort, although many pet owners may continue to prefer face-to-face consultations for comprehensive care.

The Guide for the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals provides recommendations on sanitation frequencies for rodent caging equipment; however, it allows for performance standards to be used when extending this frequency for individually ventilated cage (IVC) caging. Our institution wanted to reexamine our current standards of care for mouse IVC caging, which includes a 14-d cage bottom and bedding change as well as the use of corncob bedding. This was driven by desire to reduce the stress to mice associated with cage change, and by recent literature showing a potential improved absorbency and multiple health and welfare benefits of paper pulp cellulose bedding products.

Epizootic hemorrhagic disease virus (EHDV) causes severe disease in ruminants. We assessed the pathogenicity of the Chinese EHDV-7 isolate YN09 in mice lacking the type I interferon receptor and in sheep. In mice, YN09 infection resulted in 100% mortality, with histopathological lesions, viral replication, and immunoreactivity in multiple organs.

Small cell lung cancer (SCLC) is a highly aggressive type of lung cancer, characterized by rapid proliferation, early metastatic spread, frequent early relapse and a high mortality rate. Recent evidence has suggested that innervation has an important role in the development and progression of several types of cancer. Cancer-to-neuron synapses have been reported in gliomas, but whether peripheral tumours can form such structures is unknown.

Objective: To externally validate the Paediatric Emergency Care Applied Research Network (PECARN) rule for identifying febrile infants aged <60 days at low risk of serious bacterial infections (SBIs) and assess the utility of the rule with C reactive protein (CRP) instead of procalcitonin (PCT).
Methods: Secondary analysis of data from the Management and Outcomes of Fever in Children in Europe (MOFICHE) study (12 paediatric emergency departments in eight European countries, January 2017 to April 2018) and a Swedish study (four paediatric emergency departments, January 2014 to December 2020). Previously healthy febrile infants aged ≤60 days were included.
