Obstructive jaundice is a serious condition that increases the risk of death from multiple organ failure and sepsis. The aim of this study was to investigate the therapeutic (T) and prophylactic (P) effects of boric acid (BA) in an experimental mechanical biliary obstructive (BO) cholestasis rat model. For this purpose, thirty-two adult male Wistar Albino rats were divided into four groups of eight animals in each group as control, BO, BO + BAP, and BO + BAT. BA was administered intraperitoneally at 100 mg/kg/day before and after bile duct ligation. In order to examine the anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects of BA as well as the oxidative stress and inflammation caused by BO, serum interleukin-1β (IL-1β), tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α), total oxidant and antioxidant status (TOS, TAS), and cytochrome C levels were measured. Serum total bilirubin (T. Bil), direct bilirubin (D. Bil) levels and amylase, gamma glutamyl transferase (GGT), alkaline phosphatase (ALP), aspartate aminotransferase (AST), alanine aminotransferase (ALT) activities were measured to investigate liver functions. Furthermore, the mRNA expression levels of the TNF-α, interleukin-6 (IL-6), caspase-3, and B-cell lymphoma 2 (Bcl-2) genes in liver tissue were examined to investigate the anti-inflammatory and antiapoptotic effects of BA as well as the inflammation and apoptosis caused by BO. Hematoxylin-eosin and Masson's trichrome staining were performed for histopathological examinations. BO-induced liver damage, oxidative stress, inflammation, and apoptosis were reduced by BA administration. The anti-apoptotic, anti-inflammatory, and antioxidant effects of prophylactic BA application were found to be more effective than therapeutic BA application.

The rheological behavior of ulvan/kappa-carrageenan, ulvan/funoran and ulvan/gelatin mixtures is investigated using dynamic rheology to provide insights into the phase aggregation behavior of each ulvan-based network. The average molecular weight of extracted ulvan was between 436 and 573 kDa, and contained varying amounts of sulfate (10.3-28.

Mosquito-borne diseases pose significant public health challenges, necessitating the development of effective and sustainable vector control strategies. This study investigated the feeding preferences of 4 mosquito species (Aedes aegypti Linnaeus, Aedes albopictus Skuse, Culex quinquefasciatus Say, and Anopheles quadrimaculatus Say) for various fruit juices using a home-made choice chamber. We also assessed the impact of combining biogents lure and boric acid into attractive toxic sugar baits to enhance mosquito attraction and mortality.

The traditional analysis methods for fluoride ions, including potentiometric titration and chromatography, suffer from issues such as complex analysis processes, high costs, and long duration. Here, a typical nanocomposite, consisting of an iron metal-organic framework (MIL-100(Fe)) with surface defects and graphitic carbon nitride (g-CN), has been successfully developed through regulation by 3-aminophenylboric acid, specifically for the fabrication of fluoride ion sensors. The electrochemical behavior of fluoride ions was investigated using the modified electrode via differential pulse voltammetry.

Objective: Sepsis is a serious reaction of the whole body to an infection that develops in the presence of bacteria or toxins in the body. Boric acid (BA) is the most common mineral acid among boron compounds and is easily soluble in water. BA has antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties.

PMMA bone cement is mainly utilized to stabilize prosthetic implants; however, it is impacted by a variety of obstacles, including a lack of biocompatibility, limited thermal stability, a greater tendency to infection, and restricted mechanical strength. This study incorporates three different boron derivatives, boric acid, borax pentahydrate, and borax decahydrate into the polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) bone cement formulation, leveraging their antibacterial properties to address the identified challenges. All three bone cement formulations were evaluated using scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), and mechanical analysis.
