Coccidioidomycosis is an emerging fungal infection caused by inhalation of spp. spores. While airborne dispersal is critical to transmission, limited recovery of the pathogen from air has hindered understanding of the aerosolization and transport of spores. Here, we examine uncrewed aircraft systems (UAS) with portable, active air samplers as a novel means of capturing aerosolized and characterizing emissions and exposure risk. We sampled in September 2023 in eastern San Luis Obispo County, California, in an area with confirmed in soils. We completed 41 20 min flights across 14 sites using UAS equipped with an 8 L/min bioaerosol sampler and a low-cost particulate matter sensor. We sampled source soils and air under ambient conditions using one UAS at 1-10 m above ground level, and under a simulated high-dust event using two UAS, one at <2 m height and one at 5-12 m. We detected DNA in 2 of 41 air samples (4.9%), both under ambient conditions at 8 m above ground level, representing the highest known height of airborne detection. Spatially explicit UAS-based sampling could enhance understanding of aerobiology and enable detection in hard-to-reach or hazardous air masses, including dust storms and wildfire smoke.

This study investigates airborne concentrations of six insecticides widely used on crops grown in agricultural, semi-urban, and rural areas of Bursa Province, Türkiye. Sorbent-impregnated passive air samplers (SIP-PASs), consisting of polyurethane foam (PUF) disks impregnated with XAD-2 resin, were deployed at ten strategically selected sites representing diverse agricultural and demographic profiles within the province. Analytes were quantified using gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) for depuration compounds and liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) for target insecticides.

Objectives: This study aimed to quantify aerosol and microbial exposure levels during different working hours, analyze temporal air pollution trends in the endoscopy suite, and provide evidence to optimize infection prevention strategies.
Methods: A portable laser particle counter and an airborne bacteria sampler were used to measure aerosol particle concentrations and microbial loads at four time points: before the commencement of work (baseline), and 1, 2, and 3 h after work initiation. Continuous data collection was conducted over 10 consecutive working days.

Air pollution is linked to childhood mortality and morbidity in low- and middle-income countries globally. There is growing evidence linking air pollution to asthma and other respiratory diseases in children. Studies have shown that children are likely to experience asthma due to their narrow airways and their heightened sensitivity to environmental irritants.

Detecting airborne viruses using an integrated aerosol sampling detection device is of great significance in epidemic prevention and control. Most of the applicable aerosol samplers have a flow rate of less than 1000 L/min, which is insufficient for application in large public spaces. Recent research, on the other hand, has revealed the advantages of microfluidic chip-based LAMP-CRISPR in airborne virus detection; however, this promising detection method has yet to be integrated with an aerosol sampler.

Exposures to fine particulate matter (PM) have been associated with health impacts, but our understanding of PM concentration-response (PM-CR) relationships remains incomplete. This study investigates the association between particulate-bound reactive oxygen species (PB-ROS) and cellular oxidative stress responses induced by urban nanoparticles. PB-ROS were measured using the DCFH assay, both on PTFE filters (24-hour resolution, PB-ROS) and PB-ROS measured using a Particle-Into-Liquid Sampler (2-hour resolution, PB-ROS).
