The integration of piezoelectric and photocatalytic materials to enhance the separation of photogenerated charge carriers for overall water splitting (OWS) gives prospects for the application of solar-to-chemical energy conversion. However, high interfacial resistance and poor charge transport remain challenges for the construction of piezo-photocatalytic systems. In this study, we applied the piezoelectric effect to photocatalysts in a simple and universal manner through building electron bridges, achieving an apparent quantum efficiency of 4.4% at a wavelength of 420 ± 20 nm. The conducting polymer polyaniline (PANI), for the first time, was used to bridge the piezoelectric material ZnO and the photocatalyst (ZnO)(GaN) by in situ polymerization, which served as an electron bridge to transfer the piezoelectric effect. This work offers new possibilities for realizing efficient charge transfer and separation as well as universal applicability of building electron bridges between piezoelectric materials and photocatalysts for efficient OWS.

Constructing structurally sophisticated molecules with interesting properties is the goal of supramolecular chemistry. Herein, two heterometallic clusters, formulated respectively as [GdNi(μ-CO)(μ-NO)(μ-OH)(μ-OH)(μ-CO)(HO)]Cl·49HO·90MeOH (, H = -methyliminodiacetic acid) and [TbNi(μ-CO)(μ-NO)(μ-OH)(μ-OH)(HO)]Cl·50HO·130MeOH (), were obtained by the cohydrolysis of Ln (Ln = Gd, Tb) and Ni in the presence of H and triethylamine. The essentially isostructural cationic cluster cages are constructed by coexisting pentagons and hexagons whose formation is respectively templated by nitrate and oxalate ions.

Background: Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a devastating neurodegenerative disease characterized by oxidative stress and progressive motor neuron degeneration. This study evaluates the potential neuroprotective effects of caffeine in the Wobbler mouse, an established model of ALS.
Methods: Wobbler mice received caffeine supplementation (60 mg/kg/day) via drinking water, and key parameters, including muscle strength, NAD metabolism, oxidative stress, and motor neuron morphology, were assessed at critical disease stages.

We propose a scheme for retrieving the ultrafast valley polarization (VP) dynamics in two-dimensional hexagonal materials via attosecond circular dichroism (CD) transient absorption spectroscopy. This approach builds on the CD transition between the first and higher conduction bands induced by the circularly polarized probe pulses. The population imbalance at nonequivalent valleys in the first conduction band is proportionally mapped onto the difference in absorption coefficients of two probe pulses with opposite helicities, supporting an unprecedented quantitative retrieval of the corresponding VP dynamics with subfemtosecond time resolution.

Alloc-protected furfuryl amino alcohols derived from furfural and ʟ- or ᴅ-valinol were subjected to Torii-type ester electrosynthesis to obtain the corresponding unsaturated esters. These served as key intermediates to prepare ()- and enantioenriched unsaturated amides by -Alloc deprotection which induced concomitant methoxymethyl group cleavage, to- rearrangement, and isomerization of the double bond. An oxazoline ring formation in the resulting unsaturated amides provided the corresponding enantioenriched vinyloxazoline.
