Postoperative adhesions are a common complication following abdominal surgery, affecting over 90% of patients and leading to significant morbidity. Current anti-adhesion strategies, such as the use of physical and chemical barriers, have limitations such as short retention time, mechanical fragility, and inefficient drug delivery. This study developed a pectin-based emulsion gel loaded with celecoxib to prevent adhesions and provide localized pain relief. : Formulations (F1-F4) with different pectin concentrations were evaluated for rheological properties, mucoadhesion, degradation rate, and celecoxib release. In vivo efficacy was evaluated in Sprague-Dawley rats via a standardized model of peritoneal abrasion, in which the formulations were compared to a commercially available anti-adhesion barrier. : The optimized emulsion gel (F4) exhibited improved mucoadhesion (9009 mPa·s), prolonged retention, and controlled celecoxib release over 14 days, reaching 80% release by day 9. In vivo, formulation F4 significantly reduced adhesions compared to a commercially available product. Pharmacokinetic analysis showed rapid absorption (T = 2 h) and sustained celecoxib plasma levels, confirming its effectiveness as a localized drug-delivery system. The celecoxib-loaded pectin-based gel successfully prevented postoperative adhesions and provided sustained pain relief. : These findings suggest its potential clinical utility, though further preclinical and clinical evaluations are required.

With the acceleration of global industrialization, a large amount of polluted wastewater is discharged indiscriminately, which both pollutes the environment and threatens human health. In this study, by constructing a binary system of unsaturated polyester resin/carboxychitosan, and improving the inherent defects of carboxychitosan aerogel, we successfully prepared aerogels with high porosity, low density, and laminar porous structure for water remediation by using a combination of the sol-gel method and directional freezing technology. Thanks to the synergistic effect of surface wettability and special pore structure, the aerogel not only adsorbs and separates MB and Pb(II) efficiently with a separation efficiency of more than 99 %, but also has a separation efficiency of 99.

Plant-based fat replacers have attracted considerable interest owing to their contributions to environmental sustainability, animal welfare, and health benefits. Their textural properties and flavor release behavior during processing are key determinants of their quality. Herein, a dual-network gel was produced using gellan gum and curdlan, which are thermally reversible and irreversible gel samples, respectively.

Different starch crystal structures significantly influence meat product quality, though their specific impacts on myofibrillar protein (MP) functionality remain unclear despite industry demand for optimized ingredients. This study compared how potato, corn, mung bean, and pea starches affect MP properties in minced pork. Our findings reveal that starch-protein interactions fundamentally regulate MP gel and emulsion properties through the following mechanisms: First, starch promotes protein aggregation by enhancing hydrophobic interactions and disulfide bond formation, affecting gel network crosslinking.

The objective of this study was to investigate the enhancement mechanism of low-frequency magnetic field (LF-MF) on the gelation and structures of potato protein-linseed oil emulsion gel. Results indicated that the gel strength and water holding capacity of the gel induced by 6 mT LF-MF intensity were significantly increased from 0.33 N‧mm and 42.

This study investigates the extraction, optimization, and characterization of pectin from pistachio industry waste (PIW) using microwave-assisted subcritical water extraction (MASWE) without acid. Two different low-methoxyl pectins (LMP) were observed. The first pectin variant (MASWE100) was extracted at a pressure of 3 MPa, a temperature of 100 °C, and an irradiation time of 4 min.
