Article Abstract

In this work, a preliminary screening of the bioactivities of an ethanolic extract obtained from the leaves of W.G.Jones, K.D.Hill & J.M.Allen was carried out to explore its potential pharmaceutical applications. In particular, the radical scavenging, chelating, reducing antiglycative, antimicrobial and antifungal activities as well as the inhibitory effects on the production of aflatoxin B1 in Link were evaluated. The extract demonstrated promising biological activities, although generally with lower potency compared to the positive control. To identify the metabolites potentially responsible for these effects, the extract was subjected to phytochemical analysis evidencing the presence of eight known compounds. Among them, 15-agathic acid methyl ester () and ladanein () were reported for the first time in this species. Furthermore methyl-()-communate (), 7,4',7″,4‴-tetra--methyl-robustaflavone (), agathisflavone () and quinic acid () were detected for the first time in the leaf tissue of . Their presence and the presence of isocupressic acid () and acetyl-isocupressic acid () in this species highlights the taxonomic correlations within the Araucariaceae family and suggests a possible contribution of these compounds in the bioactivities of the extract. However, further studies are required to confirm these contributions and to elucidate their mechanisms of action.

Introduction: The white water lily (Nymphaea alba) is a traditional medicinal plant recognized for its diverse array of bioactive properties. However, its potential in wound healing remains largely unexplored. This study aimed to evaluate the phytochemical profile, cytotoxicity, and wound healing efficacy of Nymphaea alba flower extract (NAFE) using both in vitro and in vivo models, as well as computational network analysis.

Salicylic acid (SA), a phenolic-derived secondary metabolite, serves as a critical signaling molecule in plant defense mechanisms. Contemporary phytochemical studies have identified two distinct biosynthetic pathways for SA production in plants: the isochorismate synthase (ICS)-mediated pathway and the phenylalanine ammonia-lyase (PAL)-dependent pathway. However, the enzymes participating in SA biosynthesis in soybean remain largely unknown.

Herein, we report the isolation and characterization of an endophytic bacterium associated with the Berberis aristata roots to uncover bioactive compounds, particularly Antimicrobials, using submerged culture. The bacterial isolate was identified via 16S rDNA sequence analysis and characterized using morphological, microscopic, and biochemical techniques. It was identified as Bacillus toyonensis strain BAR1, a motile, gram-positive, halotolerant bacterium capable of producing yellow pigments.

Unlabelled: Korovin, an endemic Tajikistani plant with purported medicinal properties, remains understudied. This study employs untargeted metabolomics to characterize the metabolite profiles of ethanol extracts and juices from roots and seeds. In total, 540 distinct metabolites are putatively identified, 419 of which are previously unreported in the genus, representing a substantial expansion of its known chemical diversity.
