Article Abstract

The influence of ground-level O, which possesses a higher oxidative concentration than other ambient pollutants, on reproductive health has received relatively limited scrutiny. In this study, we collected information on reproductive history, sociodemographic profiles, lifestyle, and residential details of 10,153 couples at risk of pregnancy. Each participant's 1-year, 3-year, and 5-year average O exposure levels were estimated using a previously developed randomized trees model. We used discrete-time Cox proportional hazards models to estimate the fecundability odds ratio (FOR) for each 10 μg/m change in the O, adjusting for a set of demographics, lifestyle, and environmental covariables. We observed that a 10 μg/m increase in the annual average level of exposure to O was associated with a 16% reduction in fecundity (FOR: 0.84; 95% CI: 0.82-0.85). We also observed a 40% increase in the odds of infertility (OR: 1.40; 95% CI: 1.34-1.46) for each 10 μg/m rise in the annual mean of O exposure. After adjustment for fine particulate matter, the strong association between O exposure of fecundity to O persisted. Given the increasing epidemic of infertility, we strongly advocate for heightened consideration of O's impact on reproductive health, as it may partially counterbalance the health benefits gained from improved PM levels in a middle-income setting.

Background: Alone time with health care providers is critical for adolescents, and several professional organizations recommend it. Alone time with providers promotes better utilization of health services, empowers adolescents to manage their health, and facilitates discussions on sensitive issues. However, only 40% of adolescents have private conversations with clinicians during visits.

Muricholic acid mediates puberty initiation via the hypothalamic TGR5 signaling pathway.

The onset of puberty is increasingly observed at earlier ages in children, especially in girls with obesity, a trend that predisposes them to long-term metabolic and reproductive disorders in adulthood. Bile acids have emerged as pivotal signaling molecules in both metabolic and reproductive disorders, but remain unexplored in the early onset of puberty in children. Herein, we find elevated levels of muricholic acid (MCA) species in the serum of girls with central precocious puberty, which strongly correlate with indices of hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal axis activation and can reach peak levels during puberty among healthy children.

Ovulation is an intricate process that is essential for reproductive success. In , ovulation increases after mating. This increase is initiated by the male seminal fluid protein ovulin and is executed by female pathways, including octopamine (OA) neuronal signaling.

Background: Although broad-scale data might suggest low prevalence, millions of children in India still suffer from Vitamin A and Vitamin D deficiencies despite India's existing guidelines for Vitamin A deficiency. To address the issue, the Government of India has recommended fortification of oil and milk to improve Vitamin A and Vitamin D consumption. However, there is limited information on the health benefits and cost-effectiveness of fortifying oil and milk at scale.
