Article Abstract

The modulation of molecular recognition underpins numerous wide-ranging applications and has inspired the development of a myriad of switchable receptors, in particular photo- or redox-responsive hosts. Herein, we report a highly versatile three-state cation receptor family and switch system based on an overcrowded alkene strapped with crown ethers, which can be switched by both redox and light stimuli, thereby combining the advantages of both approaches. Specifically, the neutral switches can be quantitatively converted between and folded receptor geometries by irradiation, leading to the discovery of a significant increase or decrease in cation binding affinity, which was exploited to shuttle the pseudorotaxane-forming dibenzylammonium guest between the switchable crown ethers of slightly different sizes. Alternatively, two-electron oxidation to the orthogonal, dicationic, nonvolatile state completely turns off cation binding to the host, thereby ejecting the guest. Upon reduction, the metastable folded state is first formed, which then thermally relaxes, resulting in a unique, autonomous, and cation-dependent multistate switching cascade.

Chiral macrocycles hold significant importance in various scientific fields due to their unique structural and chemical properties. By controlling their size, shape, and substituents, chiral macrocycles offer a platform for designing and synthesizing highly efficient catalysts, chemosensors, and functional materials. We have recently made strides in developing macrocyclic organocatalysts; however, their synthesis remains challenging.

Novel triazolyl macrocycles incorporating glycolipids: a new protocol.

Six new macrocycles incorporating glycolipids containing one triazole ring in their structures were synthesized via intramolecular macrocyclic closure. The synthesis strategy is based on the different reactivities of primary and secondary hydroxyl groups on the monosaccharides. The protecting of hydroxyls on 4,6-positions by benzylidene, followed by benzylation of 2,3-positions and removal of the benzylidene, selectively left over the free secondary and primary hydroxyl on 4- and 6-carbons, respectively.

In some cases, the catalytic processes involve the formation of self-organized supramolecular structures due to H-bonds and other non-covalent interactions. It has been suggested that the construction of self-assembled catalytic systems is a promising strategy to mimic enzyme catalysis at the model level. As a rule, the real catalysts are not the primary catalytic complexes, but rather, those that are formed during the catalytic process.

Adjuvant icotinib for resected EGFR-mutated stage II-IIIA non-small-cell lung cancer (ICTAN, GASTO1002): a randomized comparison study.

The efficacy, safety and ideal treatment duration of an adjuvant epidermal growth factor receptor tyrosine kinase inhibitor (EGFR-TKI) for patients with resected EGFR-mutated non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC) were not known until 2014, when this study was initiated. In this phase 3 ICTAN trial (GASTO1002, NCT01996098), patients with completely resected, EGFR-mutated, stage II-IIIA NSCLC after adjuvant chemotherapy were assigned in a 1:1:1 ratio to receive icotinib (125 mg, three times daily) for 12 months, to receive icotinib for 6 months, or to undergo observation. The primary endpoint was disease-free survival (DFS).

Biomacromolecular selectivity paradigms, epitomized by the "induced-fit" concept, motivate adaptive supramolecular designs; however, cationic guest-directed morphological responses in metal-coordinated hosts remain inadequately developed. We reveal a dynamic Ag-N-heterocyclic carbene (NHC) cage that experiences alkali ion-induced structural metamorphosis triggered by Lewis acid‒base interactions. X-ray crystallographic analysis and independent gradient model (IGM) evidence confirm that these interaction templates have highly ordered architectures exceeding 340 non-H atoms.
