Article Abstract

Three new naphthoquinone-based meroterpenoids (-), including spironaphthomeroterpenoid (), a novel naphthoquinone-based meroterpenoid with a rare [5, 6] spiro-ring skeleton, and naphthablins D and E (-), along with three known analogues (-) were isolated from sp. HBERC-16614. The structures of these compounds, including their absolute configurations, were established by extensive spectroscopic analysis and electronic circular dichroism (ECD) spectrum. The antibacterial activities of compounds (-) were evaluated against , , and . Among them, compound demonstrated potent antibacterial activity against , with a minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) value of 3.13 µg/mL.

The treatment of Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus) infections has become more difficult due to the emergence of multidrug resistance in the bacteria. Here, we report the synthesis of a lawsone (2-hydroxy-1,4-naphthoquinone)-based compound as an antimicrobial agent against methicillin-resistant S.

Naphthoquinone-based meroterpenoids are hybrid polyketide-terpenoid natural products with chemical diversity and a broad range of biological activities. Here, we report the isolation of a group of naphthoquinone-containing compounds from sp. B9173, and their structures were elucidated by using a combination of spectroscopic techniques, including 1D, 2D NMR, and high-resolution mass (HRMS) analysis.

1,4-Naphthoquinone based chemosensors and detect only the presence of Cu(2+) ions among other transition metal ions by changing color from orange to dark blue. Chemosensors and function as tridentate ligands, which bind Cu(2+) ions through three functional groups: an amine nitrogen, a pyridine nitrogen and a quinone oxygen. On addition of Cu(2+), both and exhibit a 168 nm red shift in absorption wavelength (pH 7.
